What a disappointment. We played cowardly to defend the lead when we had it and could no react when we lost it. A good opportunity thrown out the window.

Davide Bartesaghi deserves a standing ovation though. He's developing and scored his first two goals for our first team. Well done!

This is on Allegri 100%.

1: Took of Puli on 2-1 when we were pushed back.

2: Defended way to deep after 2-1. Why? Just why? Anything can happen in our box if they can dictate the play. The rule should at least 2 goal advantage before defending that deep.

3: Modric played a really bad match. Is he bewitched by the Croatian? Jashari with no minutes? A real shame.


This match also showed us how dependent we are of Gabbia. His leadership qualities is extremely important. Defence was all over the place when De Winter came on.

Positive note: Bartesaghi. Just fantastic! What a confidence boost. Great goals too. Fan favourite already.


My rating:

- Maignan: 6. Had a few decent stops, especially from Thorstvedt.

- Tomori: 5,5. Was OK in the first half, horrid time against Lauriente(What a player btw).

- Gabbia: 6. Could not handle Kone on the first goal. Otherwise decent.

- Pavlovic: 6. Was also involved in the first goal for Sassuolo. Some good runs offensively, and won most of his duells.

- Saelemaekers: 6. Still giving his all, but a little decline in quality these last weeks. Needs better decision making in the final third at times.

- RLC: 6. Nice assist for Bartesaghis first, and used his strenghth well. But we can expect a bit more with the passing. Some easy mistakes.

- Modric: 5,5. Sorry Luka. This was not good. Lots of mistakes on the ball today. Looks a little unfocused at times. He needs a good rest. Let Jashari play!

- Rabiot: 5,5. Gives everything, but did a lot of mistakes today. We were let down by the "generals" today.

- Bartesaghi: 8. Two really nice goals. and contained Volpato well. Future star in the making.

- Nkunku: 5. Despite the assist he was dreadfull. His confidence seems to be rock bottom. We desperately need a goal machine in the winter window.

- Pulisic: 5,5. Pretty invicible to be honest. Had a goal dissallowed.


All respect to Sassuolo who wants to play good ball. At the end we could say we were lucky to not have lost the game. Those chances from Lauriente was big.


Up on the horse! Fofana. Gimenez, and Leao probably OK for the Super Coppa. We need all fresh and fine.

It just occurred to we played all three HOME games against promoted teams (Cremonsese, Pisa, Sassuolo) and dropped 7 points out of 9. That has to some kind of record.

I also don't understand how Pulisic's goal was disallowed and didn't even go to VAR? That could've been the game changer. We were truly dominating and Sassuolo may just give up after that. Also, why did Jashari get no minutes while Modric was completely gassed?

Allegri is going to burn out Modric by Jan if playing him in every match.

What was the point of signing Jashari if never plays?

Players need to adapt or learn that you don't give refs ammunition. RLC made contact with player but I wouldn't call that a foul at all, but refs are something else.

We can't turn the screw with these mid-lower table teams. There is a lack of focus it seems. More concerning, some real cracks are showing up in the way we defend. Modric also needs resting. He played some good vertical passes, but the last few weeks he looks gassed and very uncharacteristically gives the ball away regularly. And then lastly, although nothing new, we a badly lacking a bomber in the box. I'm glad others are scoring and it's great seeing Bartesaghi getting goals. But it's going to ve very difficult to keep up the pace without a CF scoring goals regularly. 

And then...there are the referees. For fuk's sake!!!! Why was that goal disallowed??? There so many of those contacts just "let go". And then they call that??? It's embarrassing for the league! It really is.

I don't like defending after just 1 goal lead, and defending badly like that.

But... that was after 2 disallowed goals. Our attacking pattern was prevented, because it was not special: high balls for tall players like RLC & Pavlovic.
If we can't attack properly, defend & wait for a chance for counter is logical
But... we do not have enough quality in defense, after Gabbia left and Modric burned out

We should not blame Modric. He was the architect for 1st goal. And always make himself available for long shoot options outside penalty area, but... I don't know why Saelemaekers didn't aware of his presence (Saelemaekers really had a bad match) => Allegri took Saelemaekers off for Athekame.

After all, we should give credit for Sassuolo, they earned 1 point in a tactical and disciplined way. It's good to understand where we are.

We can fight for a top 4 spot with this squad, but there is a real possibility to win scudetto this season!
But we need something in January then. A striker and a central defender for sure. And a Saele backup.
I read we are blocking Fullkrug… seems like he is a backup option.
