Away goals rule scrapped

Possibility of more shootouts and possibility of playing more minutes and getting players even more tired is good idea ... NOT

Thoughts?

Quote:The away goals rule will be removed from all UEFA club competitions from the 2021/22 season. Ties in which the two teams score the same number of goals over the two legs will now have two 15-minute periods of extra time, and, if required, penalty kicks.

I am confused. If the game is getting closer (based on the research, quoted in UEFA's announcement apparently), isn't it exactly why we need to introduce more (or, keep the current) tie breakers to avoid going into extra time and PK shootout?

Unless their whole goal is to let more games go to extra time and PK shootout.

Money? (Seriously, does playing more minutes bring more money to UEFA? I can only think of more chances to add commercials. Anything else?)

This. more extra time and pens brings more breaks. more game time., means they can push sponsors for more money... eg. "average game was 91m at the moment and you are giving us 100m but now the game average is 100m so surely your sponsorship needs to be more?"

UEFA is all about money. they don't really care about the game. Look at FFP, and VAR. things that should be so simple in practice but convoluted and extremely poorly implemented.
