These players offered close to nothing to our team last season and it changes nothing.
Of course, right now we're not the team we used to be. I don't disagree with that. Still, I think it's only Juve that looks a bit out of reach in Serie A at the moment. And with a couple more decent signings and a bit of luck regarding injuries I think it could be quite ok. For Serie A that is, CL is another matter.
Mate, over half the time we played last season with our so-called players that "offered close to nothing to our team".
We were playing with Rino, Seedorf, Van Bommel in the midfield for the better part of the season because Aqui, Prince and Noce kept getting themselves injured at one point or another. Our drops in quality were down to the three top midfielders we had on our squad last season (Prince, Noce, Aqui) being injured most of the time. Now that the quality backup players who spent more time on the pitch are gone, what players do we have to look up to when our starting midfield goes down? Traore? Constant? Urby? Flamini? January-Muntari? Who do we have to back them up when the starters need a rest? Can you truly say that you can match like-for-like, quality-for-quality when we do a substitution in-game?
My analysis was for a purpose, against the top 6 teams in our league, we barely scrapped through with 10 points out of a possible 36, 8 of them from contributions from Ibra or Thiago. Oh, yes, I don't see you mentioning those two up there in your reply. We lost a lot of firepower and a defensive rock as well and replaced them with squat. So the sale of those two "changes nothing" for you too? I laugh at the irony of your incomplete argument. Ibra single-handedly saved our asses in tight matches against your so-called "lower quality sides". Tell me who you expect to step up when the going gets tough and Pato is in the infirmary and Binho's firing his balls into outer-space? Theres only so much that SES and Cassano can do for an entire season.
The players on the other teams may not be the players that you want, but at least other teams are doing something that we aren't .... they are addressing their own problem areas and looking for solutions to fix them. Seriously, what the hell have B and G done for Milan this summer besides play-acting heroes one week before showing their true colors the next? Or blame the coach for playing to the best of his squads abilities but getting thrashed by a true quality squad?
Good post.
I LOVE MILAN
