Honestly, we can't keep all young players with Milan. Every season probably 10-20 players graduated from Primavera and we can't pay wages for all of them. Let's not forget, in the past we gave not so much focus on youth like today although our focus on youth is still not yet enough IMO.
About Merkel, we got Shaarwy and it is on your avathar WCmilan. You should put Merkel not Shaarwy if you want to protest Merkel's transfer to Genoa.

As I wrote, those are reasons why in my opinion we didn't keep them:
1. In the past we didn't trust our youth
2. Astori could be not that many people hype especially in his young age?
3. We can't keep all players, only most talented ones IMO
For Merkel, I still believe that the most possible way to get Shaarwy is to release Merkel. We all know, Milan (Galliani co.) love Italian at least compared to Inter.
If Merke were Italian, I doubt we would sell all of his contract.
