Chinese tycoon who took over Aston Villa 'thought he was buying a house'

A CHINESE businessman has agreed to pay £60 million for Aston Villa because he thinks it is a large house.

Dr Tony Xia surprised many with his excitement at purchasing the newly relegated club, but it soon became clear he believed he had bought himself a luxurious holiday home.

A club spokesman said: “When he was asked about his ambitions for Villa, he talked about putting in a pool, paving over much of the playing surface and employing Gabby Agbonlahor as his gardener.

“We didn’t expect to become a second home for a Chinese billionaire, but our supporters will accept that it is a vast improvement on last season’s attempt to be a football team.”

The sale of the club has come as a massive relief to American Randy Lerner, who owned Aston Villa for eight years without ever understanding exactly what it was.

The league is gearing up to be pretty exciting next season, moreso for the coaches than the players. Pep, Mourinho, Klopp, Wenger, Pochettino, Ranieri, Conte, etc. I might actually pay a bit of attention this time around..

EPL in for a tough time. UK has left the EU. Now maybe Serie A Clubs will have a chance to buy good players for non-inflated prices.

Difficult to know precisely what impact the political changes will have, but yeah it looks like it'll be interesting for English clubs to get European players as we know how difficult it's been for them to get non-EU players over the years.

Bear in mind there's nothing definitive as to how long the exit from the EU will take, realistically we're talking at least 2 years.

From what I read they want to prolong the exit process till 2020. So this probably means a lot of panic spending from English clubs to stock for the future. Also the European youth they will be able to buy post exit have to be at least 18. For Europe that age limit is 16. I have been reading about this and from what it seems, there are good times ahead for leagues like Serie A. There is only so much English money can do.

Still too early to say if that will be the case, I'd be interested in understand what approach English clubs take, perhaps they might do as you say and spend mad money, or perhaps decide to start building different projects altogether. A lot also depends what's agreed on the EU exit, an industry like football may be given different rules that allow footballers to be transferred without too much red tape.

england is going backwards with this brexit, i dont think epl will be much stronger when this brexit thing get applied all over britain, this will be good for the other league, in money and sponsorship. brexit gonna hit britain really2 hard.
