But if we are in the market for a LM where would Merkel play. Merkel would obviously be used as a backup option. So i think it s best if he goes to Genoa for a season n then get him back like we did with the other lads this season. That for me shud have been done on a loan instead of a co wonnership deal but am hoping Galliani is doing the right thing. If this co ownership would lead us to getting El Shaawary then its not too bad coz we know he too is a prospect and we badly need someone who plays as a trequarti. N i hope El Shaawary plays with us this season rather than Genoa.
nah, merkel is a natural Creative CM. He's struggled more at CAM cause he isn't quite that creative.
to me his future is LCM or RCM

but if you think he's going to bartha just cause, why? He left their once to getp laying time. You don't think he sees xavi/iniesta... the same players who keep him out of Spanish NT on a consistent basis? There's nothing out of real of possibility he comes to milan and goes to bartha in 3 years
Not saying he's going to Barca. Just saying he ain't coming here. 100% certainty in my mind.
Agree with you about Ganso...

If we are selling 50% just to give our players playing time they wouldn't get at Milan? Then that's dumb. There are alternatives to accomplishing that such as loaning. I understand there is a difference in incentive for a team to play a player whom they borrowed rather than own. A team that has an equity stake in a player would certainly want to improve that player's play because it would not only benefit the club's standing in the league table, but it would prove beneficial to there bottom line. But 50% seems exhorbitant.
Why is selling 50% of our youngsters' contract so that they can play more is dumb? If they can get regular games in Milan, I understand but if not, it means they are just not good enough (NOW) for Milan first team. This means, they are not players who can be predicted accurately (there is risk that they turn to be average players).
You already said why co-ownership deal will not only benefit the smaller clubs but also Milan.
In my opinion, there should be at least three categories of young players quality (level of the talent):
1. Very talented ones. These type of players can compete with other players. So, at least they will sit on bench often (some starters, more as substitutes). The point is that they will get enough games to develop. If there are many great players in his position and a loan is a must so that the players get enough games to improve his quality, then these kind of players should be loaned without co-ownership since there should be many clubs who want these players.
2. Talented youngsters. These the players that need to compete just to sit on bench. Players like Strasser. In Milan they won't get many games and in smaller clubs there is no guarantee that they will be starter (big chance as squad rotation).
3. A bit lower than the number two. They won't get game in Milan but there is possibility that they will turn to be good players or managed to play in Serie A. This players should be loaned out with co-ownership deal. Example of this player like Osuji (playing for Varese in Serie B), Pozzi (our former young striker), Darmian, etc.
About Merkel, I think he is between number 1 and 2 (more close to number 1). Merkel is no doubt talented player but I am not sure if he is really very talented one. He posses no special ability (like dribbling, creativity, etc.) except that he is suitable to Allegri's kind of tactic.

Why not? We are now not like before 2010/11. We saw it last year. I am not saying that Milan DEFINITELY make big transfer like last year but seeing Berlusconi's comment ( one or two great players as gift) and Galliani comment plus how we now set our target (Champions League contender), I don't think Fabregas is 100% unreal. There is chance to get him even not so big but at least with our current situation of transfer we don't know FOR SURE.

I asked you for source, no need to go mad (well in internet caps-lock usually means people go mad).
I just read also that the number for El-Sharawy 6mil, 6,5 mil but nothing official or at least for now it is not yet official if both parties agree the deal about El-Sharawy.

I will anyone 200 euro that Fabregas will not join Milan.Ganso maybe Hamsik maybe ..Pastore may join before Fabregas. It's not what Milan want It's what the player wants.
Fabregas wants to play for his home town team who he supported and played with at youth level. We got great deals on Ibra Cassano and Mexes was free..Robinho was a bit of a gamble at 18 mil , that payed off.
But we are not a club that breaks records and will buy Fabregas for around 40 Mil , we always look for a bargain and real reasonable price which is great.
Arsenal want 40m + if they can get it the won't be negotiated down to 25 million or a loan with an option to buy.
Ganso or Hamsik are the highest profile players we will go for and Schweinsteiger..
It's not that I know 100% what Milan will do , rather than going on 8 year's of a business model.

I think, he is more like Boateng (not how they play but the task they can do). They both are effective player but can't dribble and not creative players. I agree with you that his position should be in midfield, either left or right. But it should be underlined that the other side-center midfielder should be creative one since Merkel is not a creative midfielder. He has creativity but not the player who will be the playmaker in the midfield, something like Pirlo, Seedorf, etc.

I don't know man... he showed flashes of it. Particularly in coppa italia
He's just physically and tactically not their yet. Which is normal for an 18 year old. Particularly loved his assist. Great vision and precise touch on pass to thread it
notice, goal left footed, assist right footed :O
eitherway he's still just 19. What he'll end up being we don't know. Pato was suppose to be a fantasista, a second striker and it's clear now his best role is #9

Because I'm saying there are alternatives like loaning. All I'm saying is if you have an asset and you think it will appreciate in value, then it's dumb to sell half of it while it is still low - unless you are in desperate need of money. It pains me to think that Milan is so financially strapped that we need to sell 50% of a player that's worth 5-6 million to make ends meet.
But honestly, I'm done with this topic because in truth I don't know enough about the details. There might be a lot of fine print in these deals where Milan is assured a reasonable price for the 50%. Or maybe there are issues with Milan's balance sheets and we need to cut some assets because our liabilities are too high. There's so much vagueness with Italian Football business.

You're thinking of it incorrectly. It's an investment. If we give them incentive to play and develop him, they will. Loan, there is no benefit for Genoa to develop him.
Merkel has a ways to go, and needs game time. This is the best way (in serie A) to assure it
Besides, El Shaarawy is worth 15 mil. We've paid 2 mil + half of Merkel. End of day, to recoup both, we'll have to spend 6-8 mil on other half of El Shaawary and a little less on Merkel. Aka it ends up accumulating to about 15 mil, with added incentive to improve them
---
finally the last aspect is, we don't have to pay as much now, when it's clear we want to make atleast 1 big splash transfer wise.

You're right, I guess anything can happen. Just like if I buy a lottery ticket, I guess I could win. So I buy the ticket and put it in my wallet. But should I not bother going into work today because there is a CHANCE i could win millions? Should I spend a lot of time figuring out in detail how I'm going to spend all that cash? I guess I could, but it would probably make more sense for me to go to work and focus on more pressing matters.
That's just me...

I admire Merkel since he can play in all position in midfield except DM due to his flexibility, simpleness and character of play (try to run a lot and keep moving). He posses no special ability but his football abilities are over average in all parts (passing, dribbling, vision, etc). A club who own him will benefit from the game he plays. The problem right now is that he is just too young. He DOES need games to develop and improve his consistency at playing top quality.
