Summer Mercato 2011

It's stupid as it leaves us with only Seedorf in mid who has any creativity.Unless we sign a few player's .

Well, Merkel is not a creative player. I do think, we will get one or even two. If there are so many midfielders in Milan, Merkel won't get so many chances. In other club he could get regular games, which are he does need.

El-Sharawy is a target youngster by some big clubs like Inter and it seems (according to media) Genoa have no intention to sell him. If he stays in Genoa and he plays well next season, his price will be higher (could even so much higher). Me personally thinks that it is better to get half of his contract than nothing.

Merkel has load of potential but if this is the way we get half of El-Sharawy, I think it is good for both sides. In Milan he won't be get many chances since we will get at least one creative player and right now we are full loaded with midfielders (he even couldn't compete with Emanuelson). In Geno he could be regular player, something he needs to be in his age.

Co-ownership has advantages and disadvantages and I see more advantages. But this is not for super talented players like Pato. Merkel should not be loaned with co-ownership too IMO but I see him as the path to get El-Sharawy.

Not only market but also the ability of the club. In paper your scenario could be done but in reality I don't think it will be easy for Genoa to do such thing.
(06-15-2011, 05:05 PM)russo-neri Wrote: The Sharaawy co-ownership is the only scenario where co-ownership makes sense to me. Genoa might be trying to cash in on the hype surrounding his recent play. Plus they retain 50% in case he continues to excel and becomes a verified star. Milan might consider this an investment - they don't want to dole out 15 million, but 7.5 million is a good price for a 50% stake in a potential star.

I agree with this. I think Merkel can play in other smaller club without facing big problem but at the same time I also think that this is the way we could get El-Sharawy. I also get bother to think that Merkel is in the first team is more due to Allegri. I don't say Merkel is not talented player but I still not sure that Merkel is very talented one.

(06-15-2011, 05:05 PM)russo-neri Wrote: But aside from this - Co ownership makes no sense. Think about it - if you have a stock that is worth 10, but you believe it will be worth 100 someday, why would you sell have of it for 5 if ultimately you will need to pay an additional 50 later on. The only reason Milan should sell 50% stakes is if they don't believe the future for these youngsters is strong. Selling 50% is then a good hedge.

Why making not sense? You talk about probability which some one can't predict accurately. It is a 50-50 chance or even lower than that (aside Merkel case). We are not talking about youngsters who have HUGE chance to be a star or at least good player like Pato in his young age. I don't think Milan don't believe the future of the youngsters but they try to be realistic. Many talented players turn to be average ones even poor players. There is (big risk) when we talk about talented youngsters even a super talented one there is still risk (even not so big).

True. That what Milan have been doing IMO. Paloschi, Darmian, Osuji, etc are talented players but reastically there is also big chance that they won't make it as we expected (to be quality players).

(06-15-2011, 05:05 PM)russo-neri Wrote: If coownership is strictly incentive to get a lower team like Genoa incentive to develop the player (thus increasing the player's value), fine. But why 50%! Why not 49% so you still retain majority holding?

What you suggest means nothing for small club since the big club decide the price. It will be unfair. With 50-50 it is fair agreement IMO since both have chance to get the players and both will have benefits (either the money or the player).

Preziosi has said Merkel will play a lot for genoa, which is why Galliani agreed to it. We all agree Merkel has potential to be a big fixture in our midfield for future, but he's only 19... he needs regular first team football, and not become a waste like we see with soo many talents in serie A.

Hope he does well and he takes clarence's spot next year.

Excited about El Shaarawy. He's actually versatile enough to play on wings too. I imagine he'll see some time at CAM (behind whoever we sign as "Mr. X") and then he can also play on wing (he often did in 4-3-3)

so in a sense we could use a robinho--pato--el shaarawy forward line v. smaller teams and have say fabregas/ganso/hamsik/whoever we get in CM w/ 2 more defensive minded mids (like van bommel and gattuso)

He's a huge talent and to be able to do what he did in serie B is impressive. Serie B is not easy, they are all professionals and defensive. It's about as tough as most south american leagues (minus copa libertadores obviously which is best of the besT). But yeah your average Serie B team is on par with your average midtable brazilian or argentine side. (obviously not someone like a Santos or Velez)

I still have my hopes we sign 2 mids... 1 big purchase (Ganso, Fabregas or Hamsik) and maybe one more modest one like aquilani who would provide perfect link at LCM between seedorf and merkel (aquilani is 27... in 4-5 years, merkel will fully replace him).

CAM: Fabregas, El Shaawary, Seedorf, Boateng
RCM: Boateng, Gattuso, Flamini
LCM: Aquilani, Seedorf, Fabregas,
DM: Van Bommel, Ambrosini

I actually like the balance of creative, workers, exerience and youth. But yeah 9 mids is a lot...

Ok - if we are selling 50% of players we already own because we don't expect them to improve too much and want to partially recoup our losses, then it makes sense. If we are selling 50% just to give our players playing time they wouldn't get at Milan? Then that's dumb. There are alternatives to accomplishing that such as loaning. I understand there is a difference in incentive for a team to play a player whom they borrowed rather than own. A team that has an equity stake in a player would certainly want to improve that player's play because it would not only benefit the club's standing in the league table, but it would prove beneficial to there bottom line. But 50% seems exhorbitant.

There must be more to coownership deals that I am not aware of such as limits on how much one side can bid in a blind auction. Without some type of protection, it just seems Milan are giving assets away.

On the one hand his transfer looks impossible, but on the other many, including even me in some part, believe that it may (just may) happen.

It's hard to let go of that dream Smile.

I wanna smoke what you guys are smoking.Sagrin
just using his name... we will sign one of fabregas, ganso, hamsik etc.

my money is on ganso....

but if you think he's going to bartha just cause, why? He left their once to getp laying time. You don't think he sees xavi/iniesta... the same players who keep him out of Spanish NT on a consistent basis? There's nothing out of real of possibility he comes to milan and goes to bartha in 3 years

nah... acrroding to milannews:
genoa paid 5 mil for 50% of merkel
we paid 7 for half of el shaarawy

aka we paid 2 mil total and own 50% of both. End of day we'll spend 12-14 mil to recoup 100% of both. aka the fee for el shaarawy at the moment. But the risk is lower, because of either flop in some way, fee is lower or we don't take them
I ve been a great fan of Merkel like most of us here. Merkel is one for the future and he needs to play more to showcase his talent. But for the upcoming season i doubt if he would get that at Milan. He s a natural CAM but Allegri used him more often as a LM replacing Seedorf. But if we are in the market for a LM where would Merkel play. Merkel would obviously be used as a backup option. So i think it s best if he goes to Genoa for a season n then get him back like we did with the other lads this season. That for me shud have been done on a loan instead of a co wonnership deal but am hoping Galliani is doing the right thing. If this co ownership would lead us to getting El Shaawary then its not too bad coz we know he too is a prospect and we badly need someone who plays as a trequarti. N i hope El Shaawary plays with us this season rather than Genoa.

We are richer, if we can't reach a deal to buy or sell the player, we can wait for the blind bid and we will outbid them because they will never put more than 7-8M for our half. About Merkel, that's the same thing, we will take him back when we'll want, like we just did with Strasser and others.

Just because we are richer doesn't mean we can't be outbid. You're assuming that Genoa wouldn't have enough money to beat us out in a blind auction. But what if Sharaawy ends up being the next Messi. Surely, Genoa would bid an equitable amount, because they could easily flip the purchase and sell to Barca or whoever. All Genoa have to do is find a lender who will front the cash for a short amount of time. Say Madrid want this player badly. Genoa can say - lend us the money to outbid Milan and then you can have him at market. Seriously, what's to stop Genoa from simply selling their half to a team like Inter - a team that would be much more threatening in a blind auction.

What's the point for Genoa to do that ?
It's better for Genoa to be in good terms with Milan, let's say they sell their half at 10M, which is a good price if the guy performs well (as we will have paid 7M already for one half). This way, they will get other players from Milan, etc.

If they try to outbid us (which really is unlikely to happen because what you wrote is something that should never happen) to sell the guy at a higher price elsewhere, they will be in bad terms with us, won't get any players from Milan again, Milan could also try to get all the co-owned players between both clubs and help other clubs to buy the targets of Genoa the same way Genoa was helped to get back their player.

Unlikely to happen from the start to the end if you want my opinion.

The most likely to happen if the guy performs well is Genoa negotiating with us to sell their half at some decent price and get some of our youngsters in co-ownership. A good way for Genoa to either get some new promising players for some short time or get some money regularly over the years.
One should not speak ill of the dead.
So stop laughing at Juventus !
