Zenga to quit if Cassano signs

Walter Zenga threatened to resign as Coach if Sampdoria sign Antonio Cassano, so Cesare Prandelli is on alert.

The extraordinary situation was outlined by both Tuttosport and Sport Mediaset.

Zenga repeatedly told the media that Cassano is not part of his plans, but President Massimo Ferrero commented many times that he is interested in bringing FantAntonio back to Marassi.

The conflicting views have driven a wedge between club and tactician, to the degree that Zenga threatened to walk away if Cassano arrives.

Even the idea of giving free agent Cassano a contract with multiple behaviour-related clauses isn’t enough to reassure Zenga.

According to Sport Mediaset, Ferrero is prepared to call Zenga’s bluff and even hire ex-Italy boss Prandelli if the Coach really does resign.

Prandelli gave Cassano a chance for Italy at the 2014 World Cup.
