Barcelona have paid tribute to former coach Tito Vilanova by naming the principal pitch at the club's training ground after him.

Vilanova died in April last year at the age of 45 after a long battle with throat cancer. Having been Pep Guardiola's assistant during his glorious four-year reign in charge of the Catalans, Vilanova had led Barca to a record 100 points tally in winning La Liga during his only season in charge in 2012/13.

"He would have loved to have been here," said Vilanova's wife Montse Chaure. "He said it was a privilege to coach the best team in the world and that he loved the players."

The naming ceremony was attended by the Barcelona first team as well as Vilanova's two children. "From now on all the future generations that come to train at the Joan Gamper training ground ought to know who Tito Vilanova was," said Barça president Josep Maria Bartomeu.

Well you know that one season without trophies means curtains for any coach at Real Madrid. Not quite sure where Carlo would go though, realistically. Maybe he could take over Bayern if Pep leaves to take over Man City after Pellegrini is likely fired for not bringing any trophies this season? I saw the match and frankly it's kind of evident to see where Real seem to be failing at the moment. Basically, the first half was almost all them after Barca took the lead, but not converting chances resulted in a significant dip in confidence and intensity in the second half. Barca for their part took the lead with Suarez against the run of play, but thereafter were pretty comfortable in holding out for the result.

One positive feature about the game was that the focus remained on football. If you look at the stats, there were a lot of yellow cards, which might suggest the game was ill tempered, but for the most part it was played in reasonable spirits. It's a big change from the Guardiola vs Mourinho era when the games seemed to be fueled by bad blood and focus was shifted from the sporting aspect to personal feuds.

Also, while it's pretty clear to see that these teams are better than those in Italy, I wasn't (and haven't been all year really) too impressed with either side. I'm not convinced in Luis Enrique as coach still, whereas Real look to have lost some of the hunger shown last season following their CL success. I think if Juve were to play these teams and play as they can, then they would have a good chance at beating them.

Real Madrid would fire coach with trophies, including CL trophy. Wasn't that what happened to Heynckes? What about Capello? I thought he won something important (La Liga?) too before he was fired. :d

So Madrid won 9-1 against Granada today which begs me to ask the question.. When last has there been such a big result in any of the other major league? ( France, Italy, England, Germany)

I remember Bayern Munich had a 8 or 9 goals victory quite recently. Was it last season against Hamburg?

Inter 7-0 would definitely count. My friend also reminded me of Man United 8-2 Arsenal and Bayern beat Hamburg 9-2 last season as well as beating them 8-0 earlier this year
