Barça cut ties with FIFA and will not attend Ballon d'Or gala

Barcelona president Josep María Bartomeu has announced that the Catalan club have cut ties with FIFA for the duration of their transfer ban. “The relations with FIFA will continue when the sanction has finished.”

Bartomeu announced that the club will not have a representative at the Ballon d’Or gala because of the penalty, even though Lionel Messi is one of the three candidates for the Ballon d’Or and that he was the Golden Ball winner at the World Cup.

In addition, it is anticipated that Bartomeu will send a harsh letter to FIFA president Sepp Blatter to highlight his dissatisfaction with the transfer ban handed to the club. According to the president, they will not change their work with La Masía.
