I think wing play is the new thing .. So many top teams do it, i don't know why we haven't considered

We currently don't have pure wingers in the squad. So we would need at least four new players. Two LW and two RW. That would require a lot of investment really.

It is Milan's tradition to not use pure wingers. We have two fullbacks running up and down. And we have always had great fullbacks taking care of both defensive and offensive tasks until recent years.

If I'm right (as I haven't watched Milan at the time) Sacchi used to play Donadoni on the right and Colombo or Massaro on the left as pure wingers. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Donadoni was a winger and an excellent one too, but Massaro was more a pure striker to me.

Anyway my two cents on Nasri, while he tends to attack from the sides of the field, he's not really a winger IMO. Walcott is a pure winger while Nasri (and Arshavin for that matter, who was a great treq on his Moscow days) can play any attacking role in midfield.

Pretty much like Seedorf. He often plays wide as LCM but he's not really a winger right?
per l'amaro e il dolce
I think it would be better to have a LCM and RCM who can hold possesion and make runs into the box then a winger to swing in crosses etc, we have full backs to provide that and have you read that article on goal.. Taiwo said he hopes to fill Paolo maldinis boots, he could end up being a great LB but he will never be close to Maldini. I have a strong feeling were going to get pastore

But Nasri has never managed to become the main player of Marseille or Arsenal ... I don't see him in Milan, I don't think he would fit to the Italian football and I doubt he's good enough for us. He's not what we need.

And even if he started as a pure CAM in Marseille, since he's been in Arsenal, he has only played as a winger/wide attacking midfielder and it's the way he is used with the national team too. It's by playing in that position that he has improved the most. There is no key allowing us to say if he would perform well again as a CAM.
One should not speak ill of the dead.
So stop laughing at Juventus !
You guys misunderstand allegri's midfield. He wants 4 midfielders attacking and defending. The only defined one is anchor. We could easily have a winger if he's hardworking play mezz'ala or AM. He doesn't want pure trequartisa....

I mean there is no other coach on earth who would play boateng more advanced than seedorf but he did.

If we did get a winger player we are linked too, they'd play boateng's role....

If you notice, he wants his AM dropping all over the place and going wide right. Both Zlatan and Robinho in support role naturally float left, so at times it looks like 4-3-3 between the 3 or a 4-3-2-1.

When they go wide, this creates space for mezza'la's runs, like we saw with seedorf and even gattuso Smile. But they are also expected to be tactically intelligent and NEVER do both attack at once... when seedorf pushes forward, gattuso drifts back and it looks like a 4-2-3-1 or a 4-2-2-2

The fluidity of the midfield and the ability of all the players to take all roles makes it unpredictable, and to me it's why he won coach of the year in 2009. Tactical innovation and a new concept on the 4-3-1-2/4-4-2

WTF? Graphics!!!Okmilan

So Allegri then invented the first 4-1-3-2 formation...
In essence, Allegri wants to have three box to box midfielders with a CM playing in the DM role.
Ambro and MVb both signed for another year and Gattuso contracts is till 2012. If Slowdorf manages to resign for another year, then will the re building be in 2012 then?

I don't know about that. But this is why he prefers hamsik to ganso or pastore. Now we know how Berlusconi works, he might not get his way but if you asked me, he'd want a midfield with CAM's like Iniesta or sneijder over say kaka who is a pure trequartista and mezz'ala/sidemids like lampard or hernanes

there's a reason he loves seedorf too, cause seedorf embodies what he looks for in mezz'ala and CAM, or by that i mean a young seedorf. Obviously the current seedorf' physically cannot do it week in week out.

He wants aggressive players who link up, keep it simple, don't sit on the ball, and go both ways. I like it.

for me hamsik is perfect player cause he could play multiple roles, and beyond that... we have a ridiculous amount of forward technique is robinho, zlatan and cassano. They are all capable of 10+ assists a year (and all have done it at some point). A player like hamsik who makes simple pass and runs off them is MUCH more beneficial than a player like Ganso who wants to sit on the ball.

That's not to say Ganso would flop, but it's just an observation. The way a classic 4-4-2 all players are expected to attack and defend, is same w/ allegri's he just lines it up differently with interchanging movement and thought for positioninig. If LCM goes up, RCM holds position and slides central while DM covers LCM's run etc. It's like clockwork. It's why we still completed most passes in serie A this year despite not having pirlo for a lot of season.

There's a lot of thought for balance with allegri. Like how only 1 FB will typically push up at a time.

It's all about balance and fluidity. We can attack and create a 4-1-3-2 or 4-2-2-2 or 4-2-3-1 and when we defend we create 4-4-2 or sometimes w/ robinho 4-5-1

And it;s why a player like Ronaldinho would NEVER work except as a forward which he can't play...
