Summer Mercato 2011

This is where you need scouts who can watch a player and tell if they are big club players, or just mid table players taking advantage of weak leagues (ex. Thiago Silva, Hernanes, Kaka performed in libertadores v. top clubs with players capable of playing in serie a/la liga/epl etc., but just as easily you could see someone with same 'stats' as kaka but he scored all his goals v. teams with horrible players). That's why you can't just look at numbers persay and say 'oh he's scored 25 goals in brazil, he's a big prospect or dismiss him as being 'just in south america'.

It's just the same with smaller european leagues. I could tell you from ucl performances, krasic and suarez are VERY capable of big club play. But many dismissed them as not proven, not worth price.

Lamela for one was mediocre v. boca, but in fall, he was motm v. boca. He's had many other motm performances v. other big clubs like indepnmdiente, racing etc. The thing with him is, when you see him, the talent is clear but he's nowhere near Pastore (who led hurcan 2 points from title and scored big goals v. every one). Then again Pastore was a full year older.... So the gamble on his price is hard to say. I like Lamela could be world class, but it's a lot to gamble just yet.

For me, I was SOLD on Ganso after his performance v. Sao Paolo last spring. When they had 9 men, it was truly impressive. Leadership + his play. But at same time, knee surgery + another injury, that's a HUGE risk. Certainly not worth 20+ mil to me anymore.
Fair post, Ca...

Just want to say that this actual Ganso injure is no reason for worries. It´s a simple injure of someone that didn´t have a proper preseason and was playing two times per week. No player can sustain that level of effort without a muscle injure...

Btw, since he became a pro, the knee injure was the first big one. He played for 2 years without any and there´s no way Ganso can be label injure prone right now.

Imo it´s up to Milan doctors to give the green or red light...

Cesc did not have the best of years but it's okay, he's still what - 24? He's world class and with a new environment can easily find his motivation again. He is phenomenal.

BTW just a thought, what would you guys think if we sold Cassano and replaced him with Rossi (a Milanista). Rossi can play pretty much in every one of the attacking positions and the wide positions as well. He's had a great season at Villareal, and I remember him scoring that amazing goal against Espanyol that I haven't seen any striker do in years...

I'd love Rossi to join us. He would add so much to the team, much more than Cassano I think.

What Rossi can offer that Cassano can't except age? Will we get Rossi only from selling Cassano or we still need to add money into the money we get from Cassano's sell to buy Rossi?

If Rossi is NOT REALLY an upgrade of Cassano and/or we have to provide money (beside money from Casano's sell) to get him, why should we buy Rossi?

You are right, Rossi will be expensive. We can probably get 15m out of Cassano, maximum, while Rossi will cost about 28m.

Rossi has goals, consistency and speed. He also is not a hot head and will not go crazy getting a red card at any moment. Cassano has vision and assists. He is lazy, slow but I guess he is able to produce a goal out of nothing thru an assist or something. Rossi is also a player with alot of determination and is versatile, can play as AM, LW, RW and CF... Cassano can pretty much only play LW at the moment.
The bottom line why I'm so worried about making a move for a young CAM is because it will be the most crucial addition to our champions league run next year.. I'd just like a player with more experience to take the position next year, like Honda or Hernanes for example, we definitely wont get one of them with Ganso as our future superstar because his price tag is just plain and simply way too much for him especially with his injuries, wasn't he off for a while injured before this recent injury? Anyways not saying Lamela is invinsible on that matter but at least we won't be paying him 30million+ , more likely 10-15mln. They've both given lifts to their clubs when their on there game leave it at that. I'm speaking skill-wise in my opinion I just like Lamela's style of play better, Ganso strikes me the type of player who will make the ball run to his companions where as Lamela's style of play is more rushing into the box and taking on 3-4 men. But then again my love for brazilian players would see me in favour for Ganso instead of Lamela, but from what I've seen of Lamela at only 19y/o im shocked to sayy the least. Pastore of course I would take over both however it will be complicated because of Zamparinis hard head and who knows the price he'll put on him...

on another note, sort of off topic i dont want to throw off the mercato idea but its bugging me and i had to talk about it somewhere, why is pele constantly putting messi down.. He will go down as one of the greatest players to have ever lived, he's 23 years old and two golden balls already. At 23 he still hasn't reached his maximum, you cant compare todays football to peles era back in the stoneage, it makes me so nervous it must be out of grief of the idea messi may take his title .. I think the next big comparison will be Ronaldo(brazilian) vs Messi eventually once messi is retired etc etc just like now its pele maradona
Hernanes is being link, Sandro is being link and now all its need is Honda and the triple threat will come to Milan.

Anyone gets the idea that Slowdorf will be gone, as he had a meeting but nothing got done.
I have that idea too, i'm thinking he probably doesn't want to disappoint any fans that really want to keep him around still, me personally I love seedorf for all he's done but it is time to leave to be honest. I think after the Udine game we'll know whos going to leave, most likely they'll give a bow or something to clue us in, just like Sheva or Kaka did before they left in their last official game. Hopefully with Pirlo its not the case, I did want him to leave but now I'm starting to fall back on that idea, only because he is still one of the best playmakers around however he doesn't fit in Allegris plans imo seems to be the case.

Pele is a joke, if you ask me.
He might be a great player, but he also played in the best team during that era. On top of that, back at his era, players tend to just play the game instead of now, where you got teams of scouts watching each other, looking at data to see where are the weaknesses......On top of that, it was not until Germany in 74 that teams began to play a defensive approach to games. If Pele happens to be playing today, I doubt he will be as successful as he was then.
I think Messi is no doubt a better player than Pele already, and if Agrentina actually got a better coach in 2010, Messi probably won his first WC.
Yea, exactly. Back in his days also some certain moves and skills hadn't even been perfected or even invented until R9 hit the stage and eventually ronaldinho as well. they re defined dribbling in my opinion. Argentina has a not so strong back line as well, they didnt have a problem scoring goals but rather conceding. I also think Messi's world cup experience matured him as a player as well .. Pele is ruining what name he already had by continiously making these comments. His most recent was saying he has a lot to do before he can reach his likes and lets not forget cyruff and platini and this and that like wtf? you can't compare soccer back then to now where there are certain dribbles that are almost impossible to stop 1v1 back then it was more of having a good touch , pele mostly just dragged the ball by players. IMO Zidane and Brazilian ronaldo redefined football they should be the two legends in question rather then pele and maradonna if anything.. The next world cup will be in brazil, and i also think they will be definite favorites because hernanes will be at peak age and Ganso and neymar and pato will be matured, robinho will probably still be captain and still be greeat, that guy marcelinho may also make the step up by then as well not to mention a silva-luiz backline is probably the most solid you'll find. (once nesta retiresBig Grin) imagine a brazil starting line up playing Milans formation.

---------Neymar------Pato(robinho)-
-----------------Ganso---------------
----Hernanes---Sandro---Hulk------
-Marcelo-----Silva---Luiz---?????(Maicon,Rafinha,Alves although LB?) It's hard because im trying to consider there age once the world cup begins.
----------cesar-------------------

Thats one hell of a line up if you ask me.
Also apparently a young prospect by the name of lulinha? plays for corinthians does anyone know anything of this player? a friend of mine who is brazilian but lives in canada parents r from Rio he follows a team called Vasca da gamo or something like that i forget and he tries watching the brazilian league every opportunity he gets and he told me about this guy lulinha, the negative part about this friend of mine is he follows Schalke out of the european teams he went crazy when they made it to the semis..

Another thing, the new owner of Roma im not liking his ideas so far.. He's looking into bringing in american players like bradley and donovan.. this is good yes maybe one or two but roma can't lose its italian identity that its had for a while now. And those two players i doubt will bring anything more then what the players they have can, maybe donovan a bit more but he wont make a huge difference and nearing 30? cmon, not so smart business so far.
