If you have a midfield of these players:

---Nocerino----Strootman---Montolivo---

All of the are interchangeable/alternatives/compatible to one another. Everyone at one moment during the game can play in everyones position successfully plus add smth extra to that position. For instance. Monotolivo-Boateng interchange means more creativity up front, and more aggressiveness/directness at the center of the pitch. Nocerino loves to move inside the box at times, Boateng can cover for him at the right of the midfield easily( acutally this year he has played more of a third attacker form the right),that way he can spread the defenses and giving Nocerino extra space in the box.

Strootman also loves to get the ball and do the playmaker (Rui Costa style),in this case you have this

-Boa------Strootman----Cassano
---------------Ibra---------------

Every coaches dream is to have the option to change tactics inside the game, without making substitution. This all round midfield provides this option. Pirlo was limited tactically and defensively, MVbomel was limited offensively( did he have an assist entire season??). Strootman is both good offensively and tactically/defensively. Not as good as Pirlo and Bommel in their best attributes, but we are craving for a combination of both for years now.

And what is the most important, this midfield will push Ibra in the box where he belongs. I know he is great all round player, he has vision and creativity.But when you decide to come outside the box and play a "midfielder" have in mind that the moment you lose a ball you chase it till the end. Ibra comes outside the box becomes a midfielder, gets the ball looks for an open space passes, but loses the ball. And the moment he loses the ball acts like a Striker,stops and looks around (plus starts yelling at other players).

When a striker loses a ball there is an entire midfield to cover for him, when you lose a ball ind midfield there are only 3-4 player to cover for you. This is the only thing I have disliked this season from Allgeri. Hope he changes it. You are a forward, stay in the box and make something creative there, where the possibility of scoring is much higher, than the centere of the pitch.

Excellent post and this concept has infatuated me for years thanks to Sacchi and his concepts.

Guess who is Strootman`s agent. MINO RAIOLA. We have done this guy a lot of favors, he shoud repay us with this great favor

I never forgive him because of his failure to bring Hamsik, now is the time he should repay us, Strootman will be a nice consolation.

An interview of raiola had asked him why he had met with galliani(this was a week if not less ago), if it had any possibility linked with ibra leaving and he said that it didn't, it was to speak of a player of his who we're interested in.. quite likely that player is strootman.

He had a fantastic start. I think the reason that he was rather quiet later on was because Mancini simply didn't want to use him. He can be really good if properly used, I believe.

But I reckon that the ship has sailed.

Dzeko became an extra man after Kun arrived at City. I don't blame Mancini for that as Kun is a much better choice with Silva and Narsi behind him.

Dzeko concerns me mostly because he's not the player from Wolfsburg I remember if I'm honest. He's lost a dynamic in his game at City and is more like a target man than an all round forward. Maybe we could get the best out of him so I wouldn't rule him out, but I must admit right now he doesn't excite me
