Just to clarify on the Kaka sale, it was never meant to be used to be re-invested into the team. That money was used to balance the books. There was other money coming on from Gourcuff, Hunter and Borriello sales that we are seeing being invested into Ibra, Robinho, Prince deals including all about 10-15 youngsters we've bought in recent years.
That 50m would not be spent at one go, but maybe a big portion of it can be used to replace Pato with a young striker with a lot more guarantees than Pato - like SuperMario or Neymar (or Andy Carroll  ).

If you seen our latest debt numbers, you would know that we are back in debt again, with the reported -40mln as far as I can remember.
So if we do sell Pato for 50 mln, rest assured we will spend none of it.

Even with the issue of a speculative debt hanging over the club i would think that footballing philosophy would dictate the way that a potential fee from pato would be used. As it stands milan have always tended to save a proportion of transfer fees/ profit margin rather than splurge on one or two megastars and if pato was sold even without the debt issue i am pretty sure that the entire fee or even the majority wouldn't be spent on new signings. As for the debt issue for me is too divisive milan could well use a potential fee could be spent on servicing the debt but equally could be spent on new player/s if berlusconi was to provide additional funds.

Pato has yet to show that he has improved. He still have the same problems that he had four years ago; He's often in the wrong place, he's movement is wrong, and he provides no dynamic in the offensive part. Of course, he has that pure talent, capabilities that is hard to oversee; technique, pace, heading, and shooting. I've been sure for 4 years now that he will become better, but now i'm not certain anymore. If he stays, and plays of and on for four years, we've already paid around 25 mill. in salaries for him.
But we won't sell now, and i don't believe the offer is real. Though, if we get an 50 mill. offer this summer, I can't see any reason for not selling.
Barcelona took a bold step and let Ronaldinho, Deco & Eto go to really unleash 21 year old Messi. Now Messi has surpassed all of them in every way, whether Ronaldinho fans admit it or not.
Same situation is here with AC Milan. At 31 Zlatan Ibrahimovic won't improve much & won't do anything more miraculous for AC Milan. Plus he always choke in UCL big matches. The other fan favorite Cassano is 30 & in a bad health situation. Robinho in no way a proper #9 & Inzaghi has virtually retired. Carlos Tevez is a jerk & has nothing to do with AC Milan's long term plans. The time has come for AC Milan to let Ibrahimovic etc go at the end of the season, get some $$$ & play Pato regularly as a central striker & make the team around him with the likes of Paloschi, Merkel, El92 etc. Pato will do a Messi type of revelation. But if he fails to deliver or get injured again, sell him to any richer club. Man City, Real, PSG etc will always pay good money for him

Not really the main benefactor of deco departure was xavi who was able to show that he twice the player that jumped up brazilian/portuguese player could ever be also by that time messi was already a permanent first team option for barca. As for ronaldinho if he took his football a little bit more seriously than his party lifestyle he would probably still be at barca however he didn't and he is just another brazilian superstar like adriano at 25 leonardo ronaldo romario who career crashed past the age of 30.
leaving behind the barca example i think it is fair enough to point out that milan shouldn't sacrifice it future to service it present pato at 22 could go on and give a decade worth of high quality football and industrial goals for milan. as for pato being like messi for him he isn't even in the same league that nor could he ever be but that is just my personal opinion

I agree, he can never reach Messi's level. But still he will be a better player than Ibrahimovic & Robinho etc.

I like your analogy and would be excited if Milan went for that kind of gambling. However, I should point out though Barca at the time could afford doing so as they have a wealth of young talents while in our case, Ibrahimovic is our only true superstar in the attacking line. He may be a jerk (I don't like him either as a person) but we don't have any other valid option but rely on him for now and for two or three seasons to come. So in the end, while it could be called a gamble for Barcelona, for us, it is almost suicidal. No, I don't think we would go down to Serie B (Merkel, SES, Pato are still good enough), but one could easily expect a few seasons' drought and instability. Knowing the type of Milan management, we would NEVER go for that.
