Personally I wouldn't mind a threat to them. Sign the damn renewal or spend the season on the bench.
Sad thing is that we are a "small" team that we rely much on them for getting top 4, so I understand how we treated Donnarumma and Calhanoglu last season (too nice), and won't be surprised (and won't complain) if the same will happen again to Kessie and Romagnoli. But for me, personality, I won't mind freezing them out of squad entirely. (as a threat and to follow through).

The problem with freezing them out of teams is that we really don't have anyone who can contribute at their levels in their roles. Fine, bench Kessie for the season, we probably end up losing top 4 because of it, and the financial losses there would be massive. In these situations, we need to better gauge the temperature in the room and understand where we stand with the players really. This also seems like a common problem in European soccer these days too. Even PSG is having issues with the Mbappe situation and they have bottomless pit of money.
Willian has been proposed to Milan in the past few days. Milan are interested in him and Maldini appreciates his profile. He could be an opportunity in the next few days.

Precisely the type of thinking that got these players believing they are indispensable. Keep thinking along those lines and you keep having such problems. I don't believe the fate of the club's CL is tied to Kessie (or any other single player for that matter).
We made it to the CL despite Zlatan missing more than half of the season and he was the most important player in the squad. Before last season kicked off, none of us thought someone would come along, perform exceptionally and send the club captain to the bench. So who's to say somebody else won't rise up in the absence of Kessie (Bennacer? Tonali? Bakayoko? etc)
In any case, I'd rather take a plunge and play someone who has a long-term future with the club than get scared and play a player whose heart is somewhere and is only using the club to shine and get better contract with another club at the end of the season.

Players think that way because it is true lol. You can sit here, pump your chest and act like we don't need anybody to win. But the reality is, Kessie played practically every damned match last season and we had absolutely nobody who could displace him in the lineup and deliver the same quality in the midfield. I am not saying Kessie is irreplaceable in the grand scheme of world soccer, but to us, he basically was. Ibra was also important, and you could argue we would've won Serie A last year if Ibra didn't miss so much time. Bottomline is, good players win you games, and the idea that we should just bench them due to contract dispute and our performance won't suffer on the field is not realistic.
We, as a team, cannot afford to lose out on CL. We worked like hell to get back into it last year and missing out on it again would lead to financial disasters at the club. I get why fans are upset with all these players who left or might leave due to contract running out, but we have to also keep a cooler head and figure out what is the best course of action for us as a team.

You are not wrong and I also said the same thing in my earlier post that we are now a small team and need to rely on them which gives them the power to extort the club.
I said that I don't mind sending them to bench, and I know that quite likely our performance will suffer, and financially too, so I didn't say that it would be a rational choice, but football isn't all about money and winning. That's why I love Gattuso and hate Pirlo.

And what makes you think our cl fate is tied to Kessie? Because he played every single game? Please.
