Summer Mercato 2011

As for our midfield, I think it's safe to say we're NOT complete. Far from. 2 more signings needed for midfield to be complete, and at least 1 of those would need to be World Class. The only reason we may win Serie A is because other teams in Serie A ...well... suck.

Regarding Oddo, 10x is definitely an exaggeration, though I agree that Oddo is a better player than Bonera. I wanted one of Oddo or Bonera gone because I thought the funds from a sale/savings-on-salary would be put to good use in our midfield. Truth is, we had too many FBs. With Oddo gone we now have 4 CBs, and our depth at the FBs IMO would be as follows:

RB: Abate, Zambro, Bonera
LB: Taiwo, Zambro, Nini

Allegri has plenty of flexibility at FB and Bonera being a part time CB gives coach even more flexibility.

Regarding MF, we definitely needed one more signing and our unwillingness to invest shows that Milan are seeing the CL as something to participate in for television/ticket revenue, but not something that we really care to win. The investment that Milan mgmt has made in this team demonstrates that they recognize Serie A is weak and we can still win a league championship with minimal investment. But CL success would cost too much. I guess Milan is just hoping that maybe "we'll get lucky" in CL.

roma is getting scary

I couldn't agree more. Roma seems to be building a team for the future. Lamela, Pjanic and Krkic.

Inter have Forlan and Zarate despite losing Eto'o.

Juventus are signing players at will.

Though somehow, I have a feeling Milan will be busy during the January transfer window. Montolivo should be free by then and Ganso might leave. Or maybe i'm just consoling myselfSagrin
I think Inter is doing exactly what they did when sold Ibra. Buying lots of players, and in the end have a better squad than before...more balanced.

And Roma is really serious.
If we didnt try for Ganso now , why will we in Jan regardless of position.
This has been a lackluster mercato , and nothing about midfield was addressed. They'll renew most of the old guard again in the summer , and on we'll go.
Sad thing is at 7:00pm a new thread will open and we'll be signing Ganso and Montolivo in Jan , then in Feb we'll be signing them in the summer , its a vicious cycle of disappointment except for Ibra Binho , on and on and on...
Interesting thing is that no one has signed Montolivo. All the talk about selling him to team abroad, has not transpired.

I don't think Fiorentina would want to lose him for free.

Anyway, Roma does seem scary, and for once the president and coach are 'together'. Totti seems to be out of favor. Then again, he's not 25yrs, isn't he 35yrs and at the end of his playing days....

We have signed Nocerino from Palermo on a 5-year-contract.

Good signing imo. http://www.milannews.it/?action=read&idnotizia=60309
Nocerino can have an impressive beard at times , I hope doesnt get jealous lol..not bad

Funny how his picture on wikipedia is him getting a red card Devilol

Obviously not the WC player many of us hoped for, but at least Milan mgmt haven't lost their minds completely by not signing anyone to replace Flamini.

Obviously not a WC player, but at least Milan mgmt haven't lost their minds and went ahead and picked up anyone today.
Smile

We gave them half of Ferreira.

All in all guys, I think we had a decent market. I would have liked Montolivio and/or Kaka in addition to what we have, but I think without any injuries we can make a good go of things in the CL.
It is a solid summer in terms of keeping the team together, but the team did not improve that much. Added more depth but if say they are playing Barca this Sat., the starting 11 will most likely be the same as last year except for Taiwo, barring any injuries.
Taiwo is a good signings and an upgrade to Zambro and Antonini.
While Mexes add more depth in CB but if Nesta is available, he won't play.
El Shaaraway got potential and young but I won't be surprise if he is loan out in Jan due to lack of play time.
Aqua will be interesting but even if he stays injury free, he is nothing special. He is just a player who does everything okay but nothing special. An offensive version of Ambro.
Nocerino is actually a good addition bc he adds grit and I actually think he will do well and might force Ambro out next season.
