We needed Hamsik, Pastore, Cesc, or Ganso. At this point even I will settle with Kaka (LOAN ONLY). As a band-aid for this season.
We have Van Bommel, Gattuso, Ambrosini and Flamini for that position. 2 of them are regulars (Van Bommel, Gattuso). Since Flamini is out for half a season, Ambrosini can't cover those 2 positions. If Van Bommel or Gattuso get injured, we're screwed.
Why didn't we sign Poli before Inter is beyond me.

Yeah I was wondering that too, and they got Poli on loan which would have been ideal for our non-existent budget.

Yes I agree Poli was not a bad idea. But we also have Boateng, Antonini, Urby, Seedorf, Aquilani, & (Cassano/Robinho possible trequartisti)
We have plenty of midfielders, but not plenty of quality midfielders. We still do not have a true ACM as I consider Boateng & Seedorf dynamic central midfielders. We will play in an unorthodox manner this season.

Silva can be a emergency DM. Antonini played some matches in the mid, so I think he could be another Jankulovski, not good at LB but can play DM sometimes.
I think we just need some technique & creativity in the center.
You're right but a valid alternative to Gattuso is needed though, with Flamini out. I wouldn't count much on Antonini and Aquilani for that position. Thiago is needed in the defense.
I think we are OK with just 1 pure DM. Big teams nowadays only play with less than or equal 1 pure DM. Barca play their pure DM at... CB, Real release their pure DM, MU don't use DM,... Arsenal still lost with 2 DMs
Another reason is we don't have Pirlo now, so no need to have a bodyguard for him

Van Bommel & Ambrosini are our CDM's. Gattuso is a RCM/LCM and will NOT play every game (hopefully). We need more players like Seedorf (5 years ago) & Boateng now. Dynamic Midfielders who can both defend and attack.

Well Barca didn't plan to buy both Sanchez and Cesc so maybe Time is running out... i am betting on another Ibra Robinho move!!!
on the other hand i wish the fans had some say in who the club buys...
i had suggested years ago that us fans should be able to pool and buy the players we would want at our club... Milan pay the wages... we sell and get the profit...
anyone agree??? i have 100 euros on Ganso/Hamsik/Messi/Rijkaard

I think Allegri can satisfy your need. He doesn't have the money to buy players but he can train them to be more two-way.
Gattuso has become more two-way under Allegri. He is helpful in attack. Both of his goals last season are pure luck but the assists are class, the equalizer in Super Coppa started with his determination. He is not the world class game breaker anymore, but he is still very useful.
Flamini is already a two-way. Without his bad positioning, bad technique, bad injuries... he can be a great player
IMO, we don't replace Pirlo with Aquilani, we replaced him with Van Bommel. They are of different kinds, but both are world class. Van Bommel only has a silver medal in WC, but he has won more club trophies.
Without Pirlo and with an improved Gattuso, there is no pure one-way midfielder in Milan. We can have more dynamic mid. So I prefer dynamic player. Parolo is OK, Pedro Leon is also OK because he has a strong body, he can learn to defend. Busquet, Kherida, Schweinsteiger, Obi Mikel,... are more talented in attack, but become successful at DM.

Something I learned over the weekend.
1. Serie A is really behind EPL, you can argue all you want but when you look at the Arsenal and Udinese game, and you look at how Arsenal got trashed by ManU and lost to Pool a week ago, you will get the answer. Pls don't say Udinese lost more players than Arsenal...as both teams lost at least two main players for whatever reasons.
2. City is a force. It was not long ago that we called made fun at City, but if Milan is to play against them in CL, Milan will be out run and gun by them. Their strike force is as good as Milan, their creativity in midfield is amazing and their movement are really great. De Jong is the main force in their jack of all trade midfielder.
3. SAF is showing the world he is the UNTOUCHABLE at ManU for a reason. Phil Jones, Chris Smalling, T. Cleverley, D. Welbeck, and Anderson are all proving SAF knows his talents. I think individually none of them are WC players but as a unit, they are a pretty tough. Really wish Max can do that with Milan players.
4. Chelsea is back. Despite not being a Carlo fan, I thought he was mistreated by Roman a few months ago. However, Chelsea is back to playing quick movement and fluid football. Something that Carlo just can't manage in Chelsea.
5. Real will be Real. Too much offense, they have too many players who could beat defenders off dribble or crossing or shooting for long range.
6. Is Barca for real? They played with ONE natural defender and still held Villareal scoreless. Rossi and company got only 2 to 3 good chances on goal. They played with 6 midfielders. And they all looked great. Can they spare 1 or 2 to Milan inexchange for some of Milan defenders.
I thought I ought to share this article with you all as it's really well written. It's just a bit of comedy, but it brought a smile to my face this morning.

I really think we are done signing wise .
As with the summer signings and last winter signings plus if no1 gets injured , MGT Galli Berlu Braida ( not Allegri) really believe we are complete and only Barca is better.
This will soon be found to not be the case , our midfield is off concern to me , but bar winning the euro millions for every year straight not much I can influence on the financial front.
The midfield is still rather static with the old crew , I do hope max can see that Boateng Aquilani ( if he can play on the left) will rectify this somewhat .
But saying only Barca is above Milan ( if truly believed) is ludicrous to say the least.
We'll get a better feel when we play them.
I'm kind of glad we'll get to play them twice in the knowledge that we really should get 12 points from the other 4 games , and can use Barca as a sort of measuring stick as to how good or far away we are.
I just hope by then that we have some Serie A games under out belt.
Because to go to the Camp Nou with no competitive matches played , when they will of had 3 or 4 and a settled team will be very very tough.
