Summer Mercato 2011
Man, there are a lot of pessimism going on around here these days. While it is certainly understandable for people to be somewhat disappointed with what's been happening the last month or so, I think we should still feel good about our current situation.

The fact of matter is, we have (or will have) signed three useful players in Taiwo, Montolivo and Mexes. All three guys can be starters or at least very useful back up players. Montolivo might not be Pirlo but he is a solid two way player who is not a huge liability on the field, unlike Pirlo and Seedorf. El Shaaraway, on the other hand, is a rising star in Italian soccer who can have a very bright future. He is the type of young star in the making we have not signed since the days of Kaka and Shevchenko. With kids like him, it might only be a year or two before he blossoms into a superstar. I would call him a very high quality signing as well. So that makes four quality signings for us. On a normal year, we'd call that a successful mercato already, even without the possibility of adding another big name. Which brings us to my next point.

It is true that we have yet to sign the big name star we all wanted. But all signs point to that somebody will arrive. The truth of matter is, Milan's spending had always been cyclical. During some years, we spend heavily on getting good players. On other years, we hold back and go the low budget route. After last summer's major spending, all signs point to that we are back on the spending period again. Galliani and Berlusconi are not going to sign Robinho and Ibrahimovic for all that money only to watch them fail in the CL due to lack of support. As is always the case, Galliani is playing mind games with the fans and will only try to close the deal in late August. Think about it, at the beginning of the summer, everyone would've been ecstatic about signing Ganso. Then, after all the hype about Hamsik, Fabregas, Schweinsteiger and Pastore, we think Ganso is garbage. Now that the chances of signing the big four are slipping, we are going to think Ganso is pretty great afterall. This is typical Galliani mind tricks and nothing unusual. I can't predict what will happen in the future, but I do find it hard to believe that they are going to tighten up the wallet this summer.

If I have to make a prediction on the big signing, I would say that Pastore, Hamsik and Schwein are out of the question. Zampalini hates us, De Laurentis has high ambitions for his team and Bayern has more money than us. I believe our number one target is Fabregas. While the player does want Barca, it is not a sure thing that he can really go back. Barca does have a lot of midfielders that plays his position (Xavi, Iniesta and Thiago) and limited budget (in debt and already signed Sanchez). If Fabregas can't go back, then he will probably sign with us, since he can't really go back to Arsenal any more. If Plan A (Fabregas) fails, then we would probably go to our fall back plan of Ganso. And that is why it is taking so long for us to make a move. We can't seal a deal for Ganso because we still want to follow through on our plan A. But we have to wait until Barca and Arsenal actually conclude their negotiations before we move on to Plan B. So, I say let's be patient for now and enjoy the summer. And this is really saying something considering how I am usually a very pessemistic person.

plan A: LCM-fabregas/schweinsteiger for 35m and CAM-Kaka on loan with half of his wages being paid by real madrid
plan B: LCM-montolivo for 5m and CAM-pastore/ganso for 35m/30m respectively

for both these plans they will sell off either flamini/emanuelson and cassano to raise the money.

Interesting take and I certainly think you're quite close to being on the mark. However, I do not think Kaka will return. I think Plan A is Ganso coming in January with Fabregas/Montolivo/Schweinsteiger taking the LCM spot.

I think truly that Milan is trying to sign a few different players and if they sign any, then will then declare that the player was Mister X the whole time.

Lastly, I am starting to believe that Cassano will not leave. I even like the idea that against weaker Serie A clubs we can play this:

----------------Ibra--------------------
---Robinho----------Cassano--------
---Ambro--V,Bommel---Gattuso----

Hopefully our team in 2011-2012 (I'll piss myself)

-------------Robinho (Cassano)-------Ibrahimovic (Pato/Inzaghi)---------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
----------------------------------Ganso (El Shaarawy)----------------------------
----------Fabregas (Seedorf/Flamini)----------------Boateng (Gattuso)-------
--------------------------------Van Bommel (Ambrosini)---------------------------
Taiwo (Zambrotta)-------------------------------------------------Abate (Oddo)
--------------------T. Silva (Yepes)------Nesta (Mexes)---------------------------
----------------------------------Abbiati (Amelia)------------------------------------

* I wish Hamsik was our ACM but I think we all agree at this point that our management has chosen Ganso (perhaps Napoli wouldn't sell or we chose Ganso)
* Fabregas/Schweinsteiger are being worked on but if they fail we have Montolivo (not good)
* Mexes was an excellent signing as he will share games with Nesta to preserve him throughout the season.
* We have interchangeable midfielders, or at least we will have assuming we will make at least 2 more necessary signings, and midfielders can change positions and even get enough rest (ex/Boateng as ACM, Fabregas as ACM, Ambro as deep lying CDM)

Galliani says Mister X will come at the very end of the Market

* Check off Pastore

He also says NO to Fabregas, Montolivo, & Kaka.

Maybe it's Cristiano Ronaldo hahaha
I don't think it's pessimism but maybe we got a bit too far ahead with the spending we thought would happen.I mean in the last 11 months we have signed Robinho Cassano Ibra Mexes and Taiwo 5 very good players , but combined they cost less than what Arsenal want for Cesc.
And while I would take the 5 of them any day over Cesc , I do not think we are in the position to spend over 25 million on any 1 player never mind 45.
And you could add Boateng and Urby to that and its round the 60 million mark. What I do think is if a could deal comes along for a good player they'll snap him up.
But to get someone like Fabregas is highly unlikely for us.If Nasri was fully available for 20-25 million they'd try that maybe. But Cesc will cost too much and as Wenger& Hillwood have said if he does leave it will be for £45 million cash which is closer to 50 million euro.Too much for us.
Im not saying we won't sign a player but it will either be a free player or a cheapish player by today's standards like Monty.
The most likely signings for me appear to be of Montilivio and Kaka.

Fabregas would be sensational, of course.
ACM1899, I will split your fixtures post to a new thread
its obvious
it is montolivo + mr X..

montolivo is ours 99% imo
i am sure galliani is working on the real thing(not that montolivo is an avregae player, for me he is needed without or even with mr X), i only hope they wont use monty as a safety net, saying that he was mr X in case they fail on the real one/ones(btw i hate "mr X" as a term, rediculous..).

if we eventually get fabrgas/pastore + montolivo, it has to be one of our best mercatos, and even in that case(sad to say) our medfield wont be better than our defence or attack, and i say sad considering our current medfield...

Mister X is Thiago Alcantara, loan from Barcelona.
Asamoah from Udinese.

Barcelona doesnt have room for Thiago, if they sign Fabregas, 1 year loan at Milan would be great for all parts...

Above all, we would have more chance for CL with Thiago than Kaka...

You rate Milan that low? A loan for Barca kid? Milan may not buy star this season but it doesn't mean Milan will change to a feeder club. A loan of Thiago is just a joke.

The management know that we need creative midfielders especially after Pirlo went to Juve. At least, the management will find Pirlo's replacement, either he is a squad player or hopefully a word class CM.

i said that Robinho is big misser in high tempo of CL.

However ibra played as striker with Barcelona midfield. But he failed again.

Well, from what I seen, he created enough for Messi and Pedro.
I would disagree that Milan spent big last season. Since they also sold players like Hunter, Borreillo and Dinho. If I am not wrong, I think Milan actually made money last year on transfer fees since the 24mil for Ibra are in installments. For a club like Milan, they should at least be able to spend 20-30mil every year to strengthen their squad. If they don't have the money to do that, then they club is not being run properly.
LMAOOO thiago alcantara as mr x...
