Cup tied is stupid anyway. The sooner UEFA change that rule the better it is for all the teams.

The sooner UEFA change that rule the better it is for all the teams. i think the rule works well but has massive flaws such as, Milan buy Cassano but can't use him in the CL because he played for Samp in the very early stages but Chelsea could buy Torres and play him in the CL even though he played Europa League for Liverpool, it would be fairer that if you played in one Uefa competition you're tied for all competitions. I don't think the rule is fair at all. Why is it that Cassano can play for Milan in the second half of the season in Serie A and can't do the same in CL. Since Samp also played in Serie A.
I think the winter transfer window allows the teams to address what they need for the second half of the season. For example, let's say Napoli makes it to the knockout stage but get to face Barcelona in Feb. If there is no rule for cup tied players, Napoli can add 1 to 2 players to increase their chances to beat Barca. Vice versa, if Udinese somehow makes it to the knockout round against a relatively weaker team, their owner might think they have a chance to advance further but lack the squad depth to challenge on both fonts, thus sign a few more players( cup tied if old rules applied) and help them further themselves in CL while maintaining a CL spot in the league. Same goes for Europa league too. True that teams like ManCity or Real might splash huge amounts on players who performed well in the first half like Bale last year. But Spurs must want to sell too. Even if they do sell, they can probably sell Bale higher in the Jan than now, thus they gain more profit. Either way you look at it, the benefits will outweigh all the cons.
