He looks like a 2.0 hyped player ... Never was that good nor a regular starter in our youth ranks, just great on Youtube.
Now, the kid probably has talent, let's hope for him he will be able to use it someday.
ELS always was humble and never tried to be hyped thanks to Youtube and other medias ... He's a hard worker who just had mental problems in Milan but showed what he could be worth during some time.
Mastour didn't even show that at youth level.

Seems like he might turn out a flop. At 18 years old players that have went on to become very good were playing much better than he is right now. He loses the ball far too often, he seems more like a freestyler than a player. He's still young though, hopefully he'll get caps for the team hes at now and it'll help him out.

It's weird...for a player with such ball "skills", you would expect that at least his first touch and his passing will be reliable. Instead, I've noticed that he struggles with his first touch far too often and his passing is subpar too.
I've played with a lot of guys down the years who were sick dribblers but had terrible passing, that's actually common, the thing that's funny about him is that he cant dribble in a real game under pressure. He might become another Muriel tbh, individual players are fun to watch but dont usually get very far.
I didn't just mean dribbler. I just meant in general, the kid appears to have a good technical ability.....until he gets in a game and fails to receive a 10meter pass the correct way. The ball "pops" up on him, or gets away 2-3 meters, etc.
But you are right, there are a lot of those players.
At this point I'm just glad he's getting minutes on the pitch. At this point him getting time at top level football is invaluable. I've still got hope in the kid, perhaps not to be a ballon do'r winner in the future (who knows), but certainly that he can be of use.
We have to remember that he only turned 18 two months ago, physically he's not near maturation yet, but also mentally he won't be. He's also clearly still getting to grips with the pace and physicality of the senior game, which I think is why you'll see some rather disappointing technical errors from a kid who is obviously technically gifted.
He's in a really tough spot, having expectations that are ridiculous. People make fun of Americans who said Freddy Adu is the next Pele when he was around 12, yet with Mastour people have been saying he's the next Messi or Neymar since he was 14. The weight of expectations, especially when he's not blowing minds with his performances, anchors his growth. On top of that he's had numerous injuries in the past 3-4 years. His growth is extremely difficult at that point. I don't really blame his attitude either, I mean is it really shocking that a 15-16 year old might think he's something special and more than he is when everyone around him hypes him up as the next great player in the world game and he's in promotional work for Nike with Neymar?
I think we should hang on to him and keep him for a while yet. Let him try and grow in peace at lower level clubs and take things from there. As I started this post off, I'm just happy he's getting regular minutes at a good level.
