Basically they say it will be 48,000, have two rings of fans, will be located 10 meters below street level and will be easily accessible via public transport. Apparently, Emirates, being the main sponsor to fund the project, will have naming rights. As it's being built next to Casa Milan, the area will have a strong Milan focus (a Milan village if you will).

He mentions the fundamental design principles were that it's sustained ecologically (it will have solar panels and reuse rainwater for bathrooms etc), it is designed to be an urban stage that fits in the area and should be accessible using public transport and isn't just intended for use for matches on a weekly basis, but also other events.

I've had a quick look at reactions so far and there are many doubts about the "block structure" design, though it looks like the reaction isn't all bad. Personally, I thought it wasn't the most attractive design when I first saw it, but understanding the design a bit more it's growing on me. The picture of it in the city really show how neatly it mixes with the surrounding area, while the square design itself allows for more space to really make use for commercial use. Plus it's totally unique to any other stadium I can think of.

Anyway, it's designed by Arup, who are one of the best stadium designers around at the moment, so they surely know much more than me. Here's some stadiums they've designed:

Looks nice and the location seems quite good. But 48k, isn't that a bit small? What if we get back to the top again one day? I think we should add 10-12k to that...

I am trying my best to like it..but the block shape doesn't attract me at all. Look at all those iconic stadia..and we get a series of lego blocks. I do appreciate the environmentally friendly features though. Means that at the very least we can save money on electricity and water bills

I dig it. I think the most important thing, if the bid for the land goes through, is the creation of the village dev referred to. I just imagine that being a big financial benefit for the club. Exciting times. Now I have to figure out if I go visit Milan while they are still in the San Siro or wait until the new stadium is built!?

I see a lot of complaints about capacity. I would say 80k or something is a "nice have" but not a necessity. Hopefully this is expandable but I would worry about the product on the pitch more than how many of us fit to see the product.

I forgot to mention a couple of points in my post earlier. The stadium will have a retractable roof, like Ajax's stadium.

There's also been rumours that the capacity isn't totally fixed and could increase in the future should Milan get back on track. I think what Reza says is totally true though, all this is a waste unless things start improving from the sporting side.

I think a big part of the design is to make the stadium fit in it's surroundings naturally. You can see this in the last concept picture I put. An oval style design would generally look more out of place in the heart of the city.

The other thing is the design appears to me to more like a complex to house stores and things. I can imagine that the block structure gives space for all this, something I doubt is possible in a more circular structure.

I think this new stadium is going to be great! I was a bit surprised at the non-traditional design, but I think it will make the stadium stand out among others in Europe, which is what a club with Milan's pedigree needs. I honestly think this stadium will be a massive boost for the whole club.

Let's hope so. I certainly agree that the stadium will be very unique compared to any other stadium out there, one of the reasons the design has actually grown on me.

EDIT: Also, not sure if I mentioned it before, but the stadium will have sound proofing.
