With his return, I think now's the make or break period for Bertolacci in a Milan shirt. I know many have already given up on him and consider him mediocre, but I don't necessarily doubt his ability and if he's going to succeed, then this is the best chance he has, as Montella's general approach suits the way Bertolacci plays. Towards the end of the summer, he actually started showing some positive signs before he got injured, so I hope that promise isn't lost.

Maybe this upcoming game at Roma will be his breakthrough, finally. I am keeping my fingers crossed. I am glad with his return, though I admit I was and still am one of the doubters.

I wanted him at Milan before we bought him. He seemed great at Genoa. Than....I don't know what happened. Many players were mediocre last season and maybe he just followed suit. Who knows...but the more and more time that goes on, i have to admit that I was totally wrong about this guy.

The fact is that he can actually at least be a decent squad player for the team. He is surely better than Poli and by the looks of it better than Sosa too. But when we look at the price that we paid for him, than it is almost impossible not to expect more than just average (and for the most part even well below average) performances. I mean, will he even accept being on the bench as just a squad rotation guy? Is that even in our best interest when we can possibly take in 10mil or so for him or exchange him in some deal with a team in Italy?

Many questions. Good thing is, we don't have to wait too long to have them answered as I believe this season is probably the last bit of patience he'll get from the club and the fans.

I had the same opinion Nef, I thought Bertolacci was really good at Genoa. He still shows good touches and movement with the ball, but something about him just isn't working.

I think a "breakthrough" with Roma is almost impossible, but I'm cautiously optimistic that we'll see some better things from him between now and end of the season (assuming he stays in January). I still consider him one of our technically most gifted players, I think the psychology is where he support, which I think Montella's spent a lot of time focusing on this season.

Honestly I think it's best for him to go back, the only place potentially better was Atalanta imo.
