To be fair, Benzema had one perfectly legitimate goal disallowed before that. I didn't watch the first leg but last night, like Xudong said, Ukraine was absolutely horrible in attack and could only hope to minimize France superiority by committing numerous fouls. The red card was fair too since it came from two bookable offences.

lol really? the ukraininan guy didnt even touch ribery on his 2nd yellow. absolutely no contact at all. its the third qualification playoffs in a row that france has done this.

Ribery almost managed to evade the tackle but if you watch the slow motion closely the Ukrainian player's trailing leg did make a contact. It appeared minimal but Ribery was running and such contact is enough to make him lose his balance. A foul and a yellow card.
