As the players start establishing themselves across Italy and on the European stage (especially if we play CL next season), they will demand more money. It's natural. We can't expect to have one of the best ACMs in Italy (or let's say in Europe if he carries his performances into the CL) and expect not to pay big wages.
So expect players like Hakan, Kessie, Bennacer, Theo, Romagnoli, etc..to soon be demanding 4/5/6 mil per year. It's natural and fair (compared to other salaries across Europe). We either need to pay them or lose them to someone that will pay them....and then start all over again. I'm hoping that won't happen (losing them) because as we move up to the CL, challenge for titles, etc...yes salaries will increase but so will our revenue. So hopefully giving 4/5mil contracts will be attainable for us at that point

The very minimum next salary is 3.5million and don't be surprised if he asks for 5 or 6.
Thoughts?

Yep. Pretty much.
He deserves a raise. see what deal we can make. But better to sign him up, even if it's at a premium, because starting over again will kill us and better to sign him and throw him up for sale then not and risk losing him for free.
ultimately Diaz could replace him but we no use losing Hakan for free and then having to spend 25-30m to sign Diaz.
Give 3 mil euros max 3.5 mil euros. Right now, we should not give more around 4 mil euros for our players that has developed with Milan. An exception could be made like Ibra (not our best player but has been our most important player for this team) or Donnarumma, a young and world class GK (still think 6 mil euros he earns now is too much considering our financial capability).
Right now we are trying our best to get better revenue but we are still far away from a wealthy club (have power from financial perspective to give big contract and sign expensive players. A reasonable target for us now is to reach the level of a healthy club.
One CL means nothing. We should think globally and the future. We get CL and start to raise our players' wage? That's insane. We need stability first in CL. A contract runs not only for a single season but a multiple years. If we could play CL regularly, we might raise our maximum wage of our players.
With respect to Hakan, I think he won't leave. With 3,5 mil euros he would take it. He has been playing well for maximum a half year. He also get his best form with Milan under Pioli. He must realize it. Internal factor could indeed affect his form but how Pioli wants from this team also plays an important role for his great performance.
IMO our biggest strong right now is a great environment in our team and Pioli's tactic, Hakan has been helped a lot by those factors. If Hakan goes, I don't think this team will collapse. It is not that impossible to find Hakan replacement. Not easy to find his caliber but also not very difficult if we have transfer funds. I don't think we could rely on Diaz on regular basis because Diaz is still new here and still learn how to perform his best play with Milan, it should take time but he has quality to be Hakan's deputy.
One thing should be underlined is IMO our goal is to achieve a position of a strong club in Europe run professionally, not purely chasing trophies without thinking about good management with regard of financial aspect.

If he asks 6M then he can go. I am not convinced he will be any good again once Ibra retires. He is this squad's Nocerino.
3.5M would be fair, and maybe a new contract can have a trigger for increase if he meets performance targets.
Again, this is the guy who played 3-4 good games in 2 year's before Zlatan.

Sure, but let's wait until they at least wins a scudetto and/or regularly gets to CL QF. So many years without anything worthy, they should be happy they are making already so much more than their colleagues in Atalanta.

Make Milan a consistent, at least, CL contender (plus a scudetto would be perfect), than we could discuss an improvement in the structure of player's wage.

Yea but if we don't give Hakan a raise, we'll lose him. And the cycle starts over again. The players that get us back in the CL need to be retained because we can't start over again.
I agree with Xu. I wouldn't do this with other players. They have contracts that they need to respect. Let's get back to the CL and then we can talk. On Hakan, we are in a bad spot. He has an expiring contract. I don't think he'll get 5mil now (imo he should not and if that's what he wants he can go), but i do think he can possibly get 3.5 or even 4. We'll see. He's at 2.5 now I believe.
Milan's first offer was 3million for 3 years (2021-2024), his agent asked for 5 and some bonuses @NicoSchira
I guess 4 could be done, may be

Good to see that our first offer was 3 mil euros. I agree 4 should be enough but we could see Hakan would accept even 3,5 mil euros.
