As the season is winding down I hope to have some input as to the forum's existence. I love having a forum but managing it is becoming more difficult as you have noticed, with bot attacks and security rules to try to slow bots down.
The web is completely broken imo (see graph below for one reason why) and a forum gives the bot more to 'attack', every post is a link to attack, every thread is another link to attack and lots more. Let's take one thread with 10 posts, all visitors including bots have the opportunity to visit that thread by loading the thread address , in addition to that they can load the thread by going to a link for each individual post. There are at least 11 ways to overload the server in this example. The way the web is made makes it very easy to attack a site, especially a forum.
Hopefully some conversation about our own small part of the web can happen during the summer.
