Summer Mercato 2011
Midfield is what Milan needs to work on... in the defence we need 2 very good players are we are ok. Mexes as a 3rd CB ( keep Nesta for the love of god! ) and one very good LB. That is it.

In midfield we have practically ONE/TWO players we can rely on - Boateng and AMbrosini. Realistically - Flamini is bad/not playing well enough, Pirlo is a done player with flashes now and then, Seedorf cannot play serious football, Rino is not a world class player anymore, Robinho is NOt an CAM, Merkel is young, so is Strasser...

In the end, I'd keep MvBommel, as he showed he is a valid played for this Milan. Players like Rino, Seedorf, Pirlo have no place in Milan from next season and they need to be replaced by 3 players that can make fresh difference in this squad. Flamini can stay as a rotation player at best, Merkel and Strasser as young players, Ambro as a captain.

Ganso, Poli, Montolivo...I dont know.. There are people who earn milions to follow those situations, let them do it Smile

I disagree ... Not on what we need, of course, we need to work the most on our midfield, but if we can also improve some other areas in the team, let's do it, why waiting one more year ?

Astori in for Bonera out for example isn't a must, but doing it would improve our depth ... So yes, let's work on the midfield and more generally on improving our first team, but if we can improve the squad overall, let's do it too at the same time !!
One should not speak ill of the dead.
So stop laughing at Juventus !

I think Galliani always try to make cheap and good deals and not expensive great ones like RM or City... I think Mourinho will sell some players this summer and we should take an advantage of it. If we can get Lass Diarra in some acceptable deal and loan Kaka' that would be great.

With youngster DM as Pirlo repalcement (for example Poli) our midfield would be very decent, assuming that we first get rid of Gattuso and Seedorf and keep Van Bommel.

That plus one good left back would make us respectable and competitive in Europe, something we were not last few years...

In my opinion, if you have players like Kaka' and Pato (undoubtly fantastic but injury prone) you've got to have valid substitutions like Cassano and Robinho...

He's got a fair amount of potential from what I've seen, though I think a lot will depend on Mexes and Astori, both of whom have done really well this year.

The midfield needs work, but I wouldn't be surprised if we're waiting to see what some of our youngsters can offer too. Merkel's established himself as a potential starter, and Strasser's a decent squad player (right now), but let's not forget there's quite a lot of promise in the Primavera with guys like Fossati.

I think we'll keep Pirlo and Rino to be honest. I disagree with your assessment of Pirlo, who I think is still great when used correctly, but injuries killed his season. However, he played some great games higher up the field before getting injured against Roma.

I think Seedorf will be gone, while Rino will probably stay, although there's a rumour that he could be sold for 10m euros. Flamini may be sold imo, I think the club will decide at the end of the season based on performances.

However, if we keep Van Bommel (there's a chance given his recent performances), then we may not see many midfielders (or first team players) brought in during the summer, as we'll probably just replace players.

I agree with you that Kaka shouldn't come back. I would be happier to look for a player for the future (one that won't cost a fortune and be a gamble with injuries).
So if Mexes finally arrives, who would you like to stay: Legro or Papa?
I will have to go with Sokratis...
If we have a chance to sell Gattuso for 10mln and we do not do it, we are idiots... just came in here to say this Smile

Rino is one of my all time favorite players. But I have to agree with you.
No no no; Gattuso is a symbol of fight and spirit. If we let him go, who'll take that spiritual role? I doubt anyone can do that at the moment. We need players like him for not only what he can offers on the field but his characters (barring Spur's performance).
Exactly. He's the hart and soul of this milan. He can motivate othber players and fire up the engine. Cassano stated he was very happy that gatusso was in the team and that Gatusso can motivate the entire 11 by just being himself.

From what I understand summer mercato will bring:

Balotteli (rumour)
Mexes (Personal contact has been made and there is a verbal agreement)
Vertonghen (though he will be dropped probably if mexes agrees, what a shame)
Cissokho (rumour)
Ganso
Marcelinho
Kaka

Really hope van Bommel will stay. He 's a vacuum cleaner on midfield and is an excellent ball distributor in midfield.
add Lucas Marcelinho, probably the cheaper option over Ganso.
