Good article by Jonathan Wilson about tactics this season in Italy. The article offers some interesting thoughts, and outlines for me how important it is for us to have guys like Pirlo, Merkel or Boateng on the left, offering us a dynamic other teams don't have.

if its up to me, i'd play 3 box to box players in midfield trio, Merkel definetely could be one of them Cuz he can do a iniesta role as he drives the ball, can create, his movement, he can defend as well. if you ask me, he is more iniesta than Hamsik, cuz Hamsik's finishing is much better than both Merkel and iniesta. i hope Merkel improves on strength and shooting.

i think that we should control tempo better, offensively should do better in 3rd zone, Van Bommel and Gattuso are too much. They are good defensively, offensively they are definetely not enough. This is why i want us to play with 3 box to box.

Merkel, Jucilei and Boateng. maybe we can add alternatives to them. i noticed a player 3-4 months ago, Henriksen, from Rosenborg, he could be a good alternative(could be a good box to box) Eriksen is nice lad.

About signin Xavi, well, I'll give you a better idea. Thiago Alcantara, 18 year old Spanish all-round midfielder, very similar to Xavi, and his contract expires with Barcelona this summer. Guardiola said that there's no way he's leaving but he hasn't renewed his contract yet.

I've seen Thiago play and he's absolutely amazing but I highly doubt Barcelona would sell one of their best youth players who is basically a direct heir to Xavi (especially if Arsenal will not sell Fabregas).

This summer mercato will be quite revolutionary I think. Maybe not so much for who we buy, but for the players we ditch.

- Seedorf: This guy has made our history, but he way past his prime. As sad as this makes me, I think we should let him go.
- Pirlo: I am very uncertain. He does give us a technical edge when he plays; he is very important. But can't we go for some younger player? I would be okay with keeping him on a short term contract with a substantially lower salary.
- Van Bommel: He has been useful, but the same reasoning as Pirlo is valid.
- Ambrosini: Old, but he still does his thing. Plus he is the captain. I want him to stay.

I really doubt Robinho will leave us for Blackburn. I think he learned from his Man City experience that a) the Premiere League is nothing for him and that b) playing for tiny wannabe teams isn't a safe bet either. Kakà will definitely not accept a Blackburn move either.

Schmelzer is an interesting player, he showed his quality this season and he is just 22.

Coentrao, he costs much and he is defensively weak, however he is strong offensively...

Criscito, Very good player but he costs so much, 18 m euros for him so much.

Fucile, cheap and quality FB who can play in both FB position.

Thiago has signed a contract extension. Allegedly he is to be used as a sweetner in the Fabregas deal but I doubt this to be true.
