I would be thrilled if we got Pastore. Out of all the names we have been linked to (seriously linked to, so not Fabregas really) Pastore is my top choice. I really think he can make a huge difference for us.

Agreed.
Among the often mentioned names for example I don't see Hamsik being a big difference maker, if given a choice Pastore for sure.
I see what you're both saying, but if Pastore is bought, he must be used as AM imo, while others, like Hamsik will slot into midfield naturally. I'm not saying Pastore isn't someone I want (I'm all for him or Ganso, albeit I slightly prefer Ganso), but I don't see them as players in competition with Sweinsteiger, Hamsik or Montolivo etc.

Something we need to consider with regards to Brazilian football now. They still aren't as powerful as European clubs, but it is becoming more powerful and don't need to buy or sell players for peanuts (or bananas as Berlu might put it

I think Montolivo if brought would be an alternative to Van Bommel and Ambro, even if he started out in wider areas. I think Allegri's problem with Pirlo in front of defence was he isn't particularly athletic, unlike Montolivo who's not as talented, but physically more capable.
Personally, I don't mind getting Montolivo for the squad, he is talented if not one I particularly rate highly. However, we need to aim higher for the first team.
