Of course all local media will hype up their youngsters as the next "xxxxx". But it's only local media that hypes up their talent. England hypes up their young people, but the only reason I hear of it is because I'm reading english media. Even the US hypes up their youngsters and I know about it because I live in the US. For some reason though, it just seems that Brazilian hype (and to a lesser extent Aregentina) is on an international level. And I don't think that's a coincidence when you consider the prevalence of corporations buying player rights in places like Brazil. Didn't we have to negotiate with some 3rd party company to sign Ganso? And don't you think that those 3rd parties are going to increase the hype to maximize their profit?
I mean, how is it I know so much about Neymar and Ganso, but couldn't name one young player from the Czech u21? Or some young russian star that's being hyped as the next Zizou in russian media? It's because I don't read russian media and the international media is focused so much on southamerica.
So yes, all countries - including Italy - hype their youngsters. But I just feel like the hype about youngsters of the 2 south american countries is much grander. Just my opinion.

I don't think the Brazil or Argentina media can control the Int'l media in hyping their youngsters. I think it has more to do with youtube and the teams these players are playing in. For example an U21 Czech hotshot might not be playing in the top teams in their respective league where as someone from Brazil is different. IE Neymar and Ganso at Santos. Then you have youtube which is making Baresi into the top scoring CB of all time, but what people don't know is that all the goals Baresi scored in the youtube clip were pretty much all his goals in his long career.
Then when you talk about why are clubs in Brazil and Argentina is selling their players at such high prices. That is something thanks to England and their media about their youngsters. I mean, if I am a club owner and read that Phil Jones is just sold for 20mil, I don't think I will sell the next Silva for anything less than that. Just business sense, nothing more.

Lastly, players response differently to different systems and environments. We all say T. Silva is the best defender in the world....but 6 yrs ago, he was a huge flop and I doubt anyone in the world including himself believes that he will become the best defender one day.
I'm not worried about the hype as excited MILAN BOUGHT HIM. All those players you listed Galliani never bought (Bonera was bought after his hype died out and he was almost 25 for a low fee).
Galliani has been notoriously conservative with youngsters with high fees. El Shaarawy's fee is quoted at 7 mil + half of Merkel for his whole contract. By time we buy back Merkel we'll have ended up paying close to 15 mil which was El Shaarawy's quoted fee.
The fact we moved so quickly on it means our scouts were VERY high on him. Milan scouts are among the best in the world, I've always contested. My problem is Galliani rarely listens. Braida had asked Galliani to buy Pastore but he stalled and Palermo bought him for 8 mil. Braida wanted Hernanes but Galliani said we didn't have money. List goes on...
Dude, not once in my post did i question Galliani or El Shaarawy or his purchase, I was just replying someone about hyping youth players.
I am not sure about that Braida Vs Galli thing, since I really don't know the whole story behind any of those transfers.
To me, I think El Shaarawy from what I seen at least has something that Milan lacks and that's speed up front as well as finding space to cut in behind strikers. I think he will fits well playing next to Ibra and Pato up front. I can see that with he will benefit a lot due to his movement and speed playing next to Ibra. While Milan will be deadly on the counter with Pato and him upfront.
