I hate this notion that a) Messi is a failure with the national team and b) a single player can win a team a world cup or champions league. We live in a professional age where the organisation, fitness and tactical awareness of all teams is much better thanks to the professional game. This is why you can't compare between eras because of footballing evolution. You can say which one you think was the most entertaining, enjoyable or the player who was furthest ahead of his peers. No one man can win a world cup anymore and to be honest Maradona didn't win the world cup single handed anyway, that's just the way it is now spun to help glorify him more.
