Rui only disappointed with milan cause he was OLD. If Milan got rui in his prime he would have been amazing. Even then, Rui was good for milan, just not 35 mil good. That's what you get paying huge fees for 29/30 year olds attackers. They tend to decline quickly (Ibra?!)
How is a playmaker with his passing not a match winner? That's kind of a dumb think to say.
Btw for a bad shooter, he scored 11 in 33 games last year, and same amount the year before.
He's not gonna dribble his way thru with pace like pastore or kaka, but he can CONTROL a game.
Like I said above, it's not about formation, it's about movement. IF we play 4-3-1-2 with ibra/pato uptop and pirlo, gattuso, van bommel.. He will fail. No runs from uptop, no width. However if we play a 4-3-1-2, with robinho, Pato, and Boateng in midfield, it's fine. Boateng at RCM does work rate of a RW, often comes up and provides width and runs. Robinho naturally drops to left and is ALWAYS moving (and Cassano similar, though Cassano doesn't drop as deep, but is a bit mor decisive. Certainly not lazy when fit). Pato at lead is just a pain for defenders cause he moves a lot side to side and has killer pace.
Besides if you guys haven't figured out Allegri's 4-3-1-2 is anything but static. The two side mids (mezz'ala or half winger as he calls them) make a lot of forward and diagonal runs. If you notice, everyone of our mids have succeeded in this role to some degree. Flamini, Boateng, Pirlo looked reborn because he could push up and had spacing to kill w/ his passses, Seedorf looks reborn too, Even Gattuso has had best year attack wise i've seen.
The way I see it. If Ganso comes we are less incline for a super technical CM. More someone line Thiago Motta at Inter, someone who has good technique, can pass but is tireless. Someone line Montolivo in all honesty. His positioning defensively is great, when he pushes up he's effective and can tackle.
If we got a Pastore type CAM we need a true Pirlo type in midfield to control posession. Pastore doesn't do that. Just like Kaka doesn't. Someone like Hernanes or Modric
