You are right. That's an excuse, not a reason, and I will not stand by it if we sell our stars under this motto. We shouldn't sell our stars. So if Pato was our star, I would definitely keep him - screw that motto.
However, Pato is not our star. He has tons of promise, but he is not a star yet. To make it worse, he has sustained 8 injuries in the past two years, most of which occured in a most frustrating manner. Sometimes he got hurt while running without anybody even getting close to him! At this rate, he will not become a star or a leader that we as a team can rely on. That's why I said I wouldn't mind selling him if he kept like this.
I certainly don't mind keeping him. It is not my money, and he is a good player with tons of talent and promise; and he is still so young, and he could certainly become a star player if he could keep himself healthy. I certainly would love to see him succeed with Milan.
Lastly, may I point out that: while criticizing me for using "no player is bigger than the team", I think you actually did exactly the same thing. You are using "family atmosphere" also when it is most convenient. That too, is an excuse, not a reason.
