What exactly would Montelivo and Aqualine add to the current Milan squad beside decreasing the average age? Both are just solid players who really can't dominate thhe game in either offensively or defensively. Nor are they physical player like Boateng or Flamini who can pretty much sprint for 90mins of the match. If you think any of the two can over take the starting midfield of Slowdorf, Gattuso, MVB and Boateng, that's a dream, As I said earlier with that starting midfield four, if Max wants to play more defensive, he will use Ambro or Flamini ahead of Montelivo and Aqualine while if offense that Max want, Urby and Cassano certainly offers more.

I think if Anyone of those two are sign, it will be a signing for the sake of signing someone, which is dumb. Smart and good signings are signings that would increase the quality of the team and not just adding a number. The current Milan squad does not need more depth, rather they need starting 11 quality players.
Just look at this.

DM, MVB, Ambro, Silva

Forwards, Ibra, Pato, Robinho, Cassano, Pippo, Urby, Polashi.

That's more than enough depth, what Milan needs is quality starters and trim the useless players out.

I think, the real competition for creative spot in the midfield for Montolivo is only Seedorf. No way Ambro or Emmanuelson plays ahead of him if Max and Gattuso play. Ambro can pass and is OK offensively but Montolivo is better regarding term of creativity and distributing the ball. Emmanuelson is an offensive player but he is pretty useless in midfield since what we need a creative player. Emmanuelson is similar like Serginho in term of character of play, they can't play as LCM optimally, both are much better when playing as left forward in 4-3-2-1 striker formation, like Serginho did (well) when Carlo used that alone-striker formation.

Montolivo is not a great player but his type of play is what we need since we have only Seedorf. Allegri also already said good things about him. This doesn't mean he would be a sure starter but at least Allegri knows what Montolivo can offer for Milan.

I will take Montolivo as a squad player and if we don't sign a great CM this summer. I would take him although I am not that happy since we let Pirlo go and we should get a player in his class. It is however better having Montolivo in the starting line-up than playing Ambro, Bommel and Gattuso plus Boateng in our formation (which offers little creativity in our play).

I do not understand how Urby is rated ahead of Montolivo!!!!
If people think that Montolivo had peaked while Urby has potential, Monty is freakin 1 yr older than Urby.....and i believe Monty has every chance of raising his level and be consistent in a team like Milan rather than Fiorentina.

As for Aquilani, he is definitely more of a ACM than Boateng as he is more creative and has better technique....for me Boa will be excellent as a RCM or LCM rather than a ACM.

I agree with you about Montolivo but not with Aqualini. Boateng offers more than Aquallini with respect of playing as player behind two strikers (particularly what Allegri needs from a player in such position) since Boateng is much better physically (can press the opponent very hard and protect the ball physically), can cover the hole left by one of sided-centre midfielder (Seedorf especially), very mobile and his move to the penalty box to get chance to score is what Allegri does like. What Aquallani can offer more than Boateng are probably only quality of passing, creativity (only a bit better than Boateng IMO) and he is Italian.
