Yea I was following this game on livescore just hoping that Atalanta would draw so that we wouldn't be the first team to give Benevento points. Now it is quite likely it will happen..

I haven't really watched Atalanta play, but from the formations, it looks like Cristante is playing quite high up the field almost as a playmaker behind the strikers. He does have excellent passing range and shooting power/technique but I wouldn't really peg him as someone mobile enough to play behind the forwards. I think ultimately, once he improves his defensive awareness, his best position will be as a CDM or CM but perhaps Gasperini is just protecting him for now by playing him a bit closer to goal. It's certainly paying off with all the goals he is scoring from late runs towards the box.

I was always a big fan of Cristante and I am happy that he is finally showing what he can do.

Imagine if we still had Cristante and el Shaarawy now. I am not particularly crazy about an all-Italian lineup, just for the record.

He'll probably be another late bloomer like Auba & Darmian.

I think it's mostly he's not found the right environment to develop in senior level until now. Milan wasn't great, Benfica was just as bad if not worse, but now he's in a club where they cultivate young players and Gasperini helps young talents grow.

Read a rumour today that Manchester United want Cristante as a replacement for Fellaini. For around £31 million!!
