The squad after summer transfer window had clear as day weaknesses. If we are seeing most of the issues only later in the season it doesn't mean the weaknesses didn't exist. It was also pretty bad to see the team struggling with 4-3-3 so bad 3-5-2 had to return. Obviously every single player had spent many matches in 4-3-3 before this season, there is nothing new about that formation in Italy and around Europe.

It's because our struggles have nothing to do with the formation. It has to do with the actual tactics behind the formation. The approach. We must be the worst transitioning team I've seen in a looong time. Maybe since Montella, tbh. Where the instructions were to mindlessly pass the ball anywhere with zero purpose...but it was OK as long as we had it. In Allegri's case, it's not really "mindless". It's with "a purpose", but "the purpose" is wrong. It's not to transition quickly in order to hurt the other team...rather, it's to reset and find our own shape before we form the attack...so that if we lose the ball, we are covered and won't concede chances/goals. It's a defensive tactic. A "safe" tactic. And you can apply it to any formation. 433, 352, 532, 3412, 442, etc., you get my point.

And when you have our first pass (after winning possession) always going sideways and/or backwards to reset everything...you end up with what we are witnessing. Which is a boring, slow build up that 99% of the time results in nothing at all.
