An investment vehicle which owns a stake in Liverpool Football Club's parent company is trying to gatecrash a €1bn-plus takeover of AC Milan, one of the giants of Italian football.
Sky News has learnt that RedBird Capital Partners has approached the Serie A team's owner - the US-based hedge fund Elliott Management - about a deal.
Sources said RedBird was trying to prise AC Milan from the clutches of Investcorp, a Bahrain-based investor which had secured a now-lapsed period of exclusivity within which to seal a takeover.
RedBird has become one of the world's most prolific investors in elite sports and associated technology companies, such as India's Dream Sports, which organises fantasy cricket competitions, and Toulouse, the French top-flight team.

Milan have become a delicious meal: big name and organized collective. Napoli lack the former, Inter lack the latter. Juve out of the question since Fiat contributes 1/12 1/13 Italian GDP.
Regarding Sassuolo, our last opponent, their best Italian performers:
- Berardi: likely coming to Milan, the world know we need a RW
- Scamacca: likely coming to Inter, the world know Lukaku not coming back, Dzeko is old and Correa is a pussy
- Raspadori: likely coming to Juve, the world know Dybala will be gone

According to Tuttosport (via Calciomercato.com), Samu Castillejo is ready to return to Spain as he is not part of Milan’s project and has not been for almost the entire season, with head coach Stefano Pioli barely using him.
A deadline day move to Sampdoria failed to materialise in January as multiple sources claimed he had doubts about the switch, but now a report to his native Spain appears to be on the cards, and to a city he knows well.
Valencia are currently the club most likely to sign him, and they are a club that already tried to buy him some time ago.
Didn't he turn them down previously as was holding out to play next to Benzema?

Beside Botman, Sanches' name is mentioned quite often.
Compared to Botman, I'm even happier to have the Portugal NT player.
For depth, he is truly needed as we only have 2 capable CMs: Tonali & Bennacer. Pobega & Adli still need time to develop.
For our tactics, Pioli does not play his double pivot in line with each other, but one stays deeper (Bennacer or Tonali if Kessie plays) and one positions higher to be ready for a counter / transition (Kessie or Tonali if Bennacer play). The deeper-tendency one is well covered by Bennacer & Tonali but the box-to-box / mezzala one is not. Both Kessie & Tonali have the stamina but lack some techniques - things that Sanches possesses. The once Golden Boy possesses great passing & dribbling skills and is a master of transition play.
Let's imagine when we steal the ball, Kessie receives it in the middle of the field, Leao and Messias running in 2 flanks, Giroud drops & stretches the defense with Diaz, we have 4 options beside Kessies running in the center himself.
Well, not bad, the fact is Milan attack equally in frequency at both flanks and the center, but only the left is fearsome enough. In the above example, only Leao is the sole good option of the 5.
But if the one with the ball is Sanches, he can run directly and shoot like Kaka, we now have at least 2 strong attack directions, Giroud can at least provide post playing, that means 3, if Diaz is replaced by Raspadori / Nkunku and Messias by Mahrez / Zaniolo, our attacking in transition is super deadly and unpredictable.
Sanches' weakness is his finishing, but still better than our current mids.
