RE: Summer Mercato 2011 - Ca Rossonero - 04-18-2011

Merkel was signed from stuttgart at 16. Most of our youth is in that mold. Poached around 15 from other youth teams. Arsenal system. To be honesty, barca do it too... iniesta, pedro... not catalan. Then there newer gen also, jonathan dos santos, thiago alcantara etc.. But they were brought in as youngsters.

What is so hard to understand here? Milan completely re-hauled there youth and development system less than 2 years ago. Brought in a new head of youth, Stroppa. You cannot compare what's happened last 2 years to past. It's different. There is a much larger focus on youth. Merkel will be a long term fixture. Fossatti, Beretta, Verdi and Calvano have real shots to too...

And I forgot Rodrigo Ely. The 17 year old Brazilian CB milan fought near 6 months to bring to our primavera. Very highly rated, already making first team bench.

---

It's fantasy talk for Milan to produce players? Need I remind you. Barca, Bayern Munich, Arsenal are consistently producing because of there attention to youth and there ability to poach best players at 15/16 and devlop them. Heck Man utd do it too, but they generally take 18 or so year olds. Talent is talent. There are no guarantees they develop. But when Milan is grabbing the best talent age group wise in italy and abroad it's a better bet.

That's the difference. We didn't poach or do that in the past.

i follow Primavera, what i want to say is, Merkel showed his class with first team...Others are still primavera players...i rate Ely high, Hottor is highly rated. Fossati is highly rated... Verdi's pace, dribbling, tecnique is pretty good. But this guys didnt show anything with first team... The problem is here...

they are all 18. The fact merkel did show something speaks to his quality. You do realize it's very rare for a teen to do anything in serie A. Let alone one of the biggest clubs in italy....

For reference, you wanna use barca example? Sure Xavi, Messi, Iniesta showed first team quality at 18/19. Pedro, Busquets, Puyol didn't really break in until 20/21. Pique- 21 etc.

This idea we can right them off cause they are not showing first team quality yet and are only 18 is ridiculous. Give it time. Merkel has a long term future, a few of them will too, but not now.

Abate is a great example of such. He was relegated w/ Torino at 22.... you lot would have ruled him out with this logic

Point being, these are LONG TERM investments. But I believe in the project. I don't expect all to make it, but we'll see more from primavera than we have in past. I'm positive of that.

And for ibra wage pint. Yeah flamini should be gone. I've been saying it for years. Very overrated. Otherp layers should take wage reduction. We're overpaying players for nonproduction.

Personally I'd like Ibra gone. I was at Bari game, It was literally the worst performance I'd ever seen from an individual. His treatment of Pato was embarassing, it kind of justified all those barca claims on how he was a dick to youth. He was lazy, he made ZERO effort. Everyone had to play FOR him. He can get out w/ that attitude. Ronaldinho-esque, except he's more of a match winner. I'd rather have a team than Ibra. I cannot get that bad taste out of my mouth. How can a guy so talented play like that. End of story.

It is too eary to say it. Merkel had luck that we had problems in midfield and we have Allegri who is IMO much better at using and giving trust to young players. We have seen some youth played in summer friendly games under Ancelotti era for example. Some of them showed good games but were never used in Serie A games even there were no first team player available except from other positions who can play in many positions.

If we look at how Merkel plays, he is still not a first team player but he has great mentality and confidence. Last year he was almost nothing in Primavera but could give impact to first team this year. That is the situation about youth. We can't know if they will be great or when they will be able show their first team performance.

I am confidence with our youth system now since Milan are now focusing on youth and invest better compare to the previous season. As has been said Fossati, Calvano and Ely are the new promising ones with Verdi, Albertazzi and Beretta the previous products. There are also Ganz who seems also gifted striker.

Well, the key of youth system IMO should be patient from the club. No one can predct youngsters 100%. Like no one predicted Abate will be so great as fullback this season.

Very good player. Not world class yet.

According to goal.com we're keeping tabs on Hulk for a summer move.

hah worst name in football, but a very goood player

i joked about falcao but he'd be an excellent signing too. A poacher, but incredibly intelligent and good finisher. Sort of a more technically skilled version of pippo.

Thw only worry about Hulk is while he is a physical player he plays most a 2nd striker/wing forward position, and takes up positions very similar to robinho and Cassano. So he really the player we need? I think we need a player who is used to playing standard CF position, makes great runs, positions correctly. Pato of course does this but I'm talking about a deputy for him. From that standpoint, Falcao is the better fit. Chicharito at Man Utd was a steal for them too...

Honestly I would have liked Matri back...

According to 'The Sunday Mirror' Nasri is on sale! :O

I'd love him to play as a trequartista, and Ganso in the midfield.

RE: Summer Mercato 2011 - abbeyleemania - 04-18-2011

For me, Abate is a world class FB since weeks...He is defensively absolutely world class...i dont see any RB who defends better than him. Offensively he needs to improve on last touches...

i always liked Falcao, i wanted Milan to sign him as he is the closest thing to inzaghi...

RE: Summer Mercato 2011 - Gabriel426 - 04-19-2011

I think the definition of World Class player is someone who show that they can maintain and compete at the highest level a couple of seasons in a row. Abate is on his way there, barring any major injuries.
