So maybe the meeting was about him? On the hand, it's not ofter that the selling club visits the buying club for a deal. So this meeting could be about one of our players going to Stuttgart. Who knows

My concern regarding Guirassy is that he's 28 years old and have only had one good season in his career.

Maybe it's time for a summer mercato thread?

Seems like Fonseca is the chosen one. Maybe that gets us Tiago Santos and Jonathan David? That'd be a solid start of our mercato to be honest.

As far as Fonseca is concerned, he's had a lot of experience and has coached in Serie A before. That being said, he feels extremely underwhelming and boring. This hire does not scream "we are taking the next step", more like we are just going to hang around and see what happens. I guess that's the real mentality of Milan these days, just do enough to get by. It sucks but this team is all about the benjamins and does not give one damn about the on field results

I'm interested to know what makes you say/think this? I think one can't go without the other. In football, those two things are tied together.

But more specifically, I'm not sure what people mean when they say this about Milan and the current ownership. Because, although I agree that they are not taking money from their own pocket and injecting it in Milan....they are also NOT taking money out of Milan. Every cent that this club has made so far under this ownership, has gone back into the club. So I just don't get this idea of how "they are all about the benjamins".

It's pretty obvious to be fair..
We didn't want to pay Kessie, Calhanoglu the money they wanted and sold Tonali for the $$$. Fine it worked out because his betting scandal but we didn't know that when we sold him. IMO we had the best midfield with those 3 in all of Serie A. Instead of buying experience starters to fill those gaps like Maldini suggested, we instead bought young players so they could run around, hopefully win something and if not still hold their value. Not an ideal way to run a top tier club

Atalanta and CDK win the Europa League on the same night as Pioli is sacked.

From the ambition that is shown by our owner, he said it himself, he doesn't want to keep winning trophies, he just wants to see other teams winning it all the time while us turning into mediocrity

Their lack of ambition is pretty obvious to me. The players they sign, the coach they hire and the overall structure of the club do not scream "we are trying everything we can to win trophies" to me. Instead, it feels much more like they are content with getting to CL every year to keep the revenue rolling. After the Scudetto win, we should have invested heavily into improving the team talent level to make a real run to become a dominant force in Serie A. Instead, we decided to keep investment low (despite a huge inflow of revenue) and regressed since then. Every time we need to spend big money, we have to sell someone to finance it. That's not a team trying to win on the field, that's a team trying to win on the balance sheets. Sure, they are not taking money out of Milan, yet. But that's mostly because there aren't much profit there to take, since Italian clubs mostly still run in red every year due to low revenue level. If Milan get to the revenue level of an EPL team, i bet you money Cardinale is going to take the profit out of the club

Part of the reason I said what I said is because I am also familiar with American ownerships like this. I have seen this movie played out many times in American sports nowadays. From baseball to football to basketball, these "smart" ownerships decided their mighty algorithm is more important than on field results. Ask the Yankees how many championships their analytical front office has won in the last 15 years. Every time Cardinale opens his mouth, he sounds like a hedge fund manager talking about a random stock in his portfolio instead of a fan of the club looking to win championships.

Agree with this. We'll see the same this summer IMO. Buy a promising striker, defender midfielder maybe but probably end up selling Leao our best player. Instead of keeping what's good and improving where we need to we continually sell our best.
There's no way we can think of this ownership as ambitious just by the signings of RLC, Pulisic, Reijnders. YES, they all worked out pretty well - but signing them was not something any ambitious club does. Pulisic and RLC both came off tremendously flop after flop after flop seasons & Reijnders had the world to prove. That's what a team like Atalanta takes risks doing and yes sometimes it works and you win EL, other times you win nothing and finish 6th.. not teams like Milan. It's painfully obvious that this new ownership will do things to keep the club 'competitive' but they definitely aren't the owners that want to take the team straight to the top.

Obviously though with all that being said, Seria A and revenue streams have their limitations on what we can do - but still, missing certain free agents, having really petty salary caps on our best players when our wage bill is miles behind the other top clubs to me is further limiting. I'm not completely disappointed, I think this ownership can be a 'slow burn' to success long term but they are definitely not the ones to put their heart and soul into the club.

RE: Winter mercato 2024 - Zio Fester - 05-23-2024

Sky: Milan have finally informed Stefano Pioli of the decision to part ways with him at the end of the season. The management have chosen Paulo Fonseca to replace Pioli who will join on a 3 year contract for less money than was offered by Lille and Marseille.

Lol he will get paid less than in France. Broke Gerry truly is broke.
