Forlan would be a Zlatan replacement. In all likelihood the perfect one. He's cheap, he's experienced, proven champion etc.
I say this because with Pato, Robinho, Cassano I don't think we lack quality with or without Zlatan. If we had Zlatan, Pato, Boriello, Huntelaar as our strike crew I'd say "oh man if Zlatan leaves WE NEED someone class NOW"
But consider our starting partnership would be pato/robinho. Then Cassano, Forlan, that's a world class complete 4 strikers unit.
What I like about Forlan move is, if Pato is hurt, he's good enough to start. But at his age, i doubt he's gonna cry about bench (like a younger striker would). And he'd give us money to invest where it needs to go. Midfield and Defense.
In all likilihood, if we keep Zlatan or sign another big striker in his place, we only have money for 1 big signing and rest will be cheapies. I'd rather spread money.

Although he's good, I'm a bit fed up with Ibrahimovic' behaviour. I wouldn't be totally against a swap like this with Dzeko, or with Torres of Chelsea for that matter. But to be honest, I think Ibrahimovic will be at Milan also next season.

I think all of you are very speculative minded in terms of the Summer Mercato. I really don't think we will make that many moves. I see a LB, Mexes, & Ganso joining us. Perhaps 1 Midfielder but I don't think he will be a Champion.
We will simply play this next year:

* Robinho will slot in for any of the top 3
* Cassano may or may not be here, most likely not
* Don't expect too many moves. If we get 3-4 guys I'd be surprised.
* I don't see a change in formation as that would require a lot more acquisitions (Robben, Sanchez, Di Natale, wide players etc) It also doesn't suit Ibra.

I agree with you there. I want more Italian players at Milan. Poli, Astori, Paloschi etc, and let's not forget about our Primavera players like Verdi, Fosatti, Albertazzi etc. Unfortunately there aren't many Italian prospects around at the moment. The main problem is that they get loaned at Lega Pro teams, where they play against very, very weak oppositions, or get seriously injured. Italy needs a reserve league, or at least B teams like in Spain.

Why do you all assume Cassano won't be here? Let me list reasons he will
1. His wages are low
2. He cost nothing
3. He's world class player with minimal investment (see first two) and friends with many in squad
4. He's italian (foreign UCL quota)
5. He's performed well, considering he was out of shape and hadn't played in 3 months, he still won points in 4 matches singlehandedly (Cagliari, Udinese, Parma, Bari)
6. Who can we get for lower cost at his skill level?

I'd like more italian players too but at the moment italian talent is pretty non exsistent, theirs a few players with potential such as rossi,balotelli,paloschi,poli,montolivo,ranocchia,criscito but thats only potential - and not potential to be in the top5 in their position but more of just a great squad player

I saw this interview, he said he would love to see ronaldo but he's not going to splash that much money out on one player when they need to reinforce other areas of the team.. goal probably left most of it out to stop making other fans jelous because of our recent transfer links

Paloschi and Astori will be our future players. Astori might as well return next season, don't know about Paloschi though. I hope he doesn't end at some other team. He can be the perfect replacement for Inzaghi. The trio Pato, Paloschi and Ganso can do miracles for years to come.
Poli is a realistic target, and imo is the perfect long term replacement for Pirlo, and a little bit better defensively.
Rossi might be an interesting target, he's a lifelong Milan fan and his agent said that if a top Champions League club comes with an offer, Villareal will consider it.
I don't want to see Balotelli anywhere near Milan if he doesn't improve his attitude.
Montolivo isn't a prospect anymore. He has reached his peak imo, he's just nothing special. Just an average midfielder, I'd rather have half of a 35 years old Seedorf than him tbh.
Other than that, yeah, I agree, there isn't much Italian talent. But players like Fossati, Albertazzi, Verdi, Paloschi, Astori etc should be nurtured to become great players. They can learn how to become champions considering that Milan has a lot of champions in the squad, and the facilities are one of the best in the world.

The fair play rules are worrying for our club because they enforce levels of expenditure based on revenue. That means making direct investments like Berlusconi has in the past are a thing of the past. There may be ways to get around it, but unless we enhance our financial portfolio we will lose out to clubs like Barcelona, Man U, and even Bayern Munich. Not owning our own stadium definitely does us no favours.
