RE: Winter Mercato 11'/12' - Mystik - 11-09-2011

^^ Isn't EL92's preferred position supposed to be SS? Goetze would be more of an attacking midfielder..a position that we've been lacking a really quality player since the days of Kaka to be honest. And even then, Kaka moved to SS in his last two seasons at the club. Our midfield right now is solid but not spectacular. I think we need at least one really top quality creative midfielder to be able to compete at the highest level. We can't depend on our forwards to do all the work by themselves all the time. That's why I was hoping n wishing that we would have signed Fabregas but that never materialized. Maybe winter or summer 2012 will bring an actual top quality midfielder our way..

I think El92 can play in both positions. Right now we don't have a pure trequartista. We have a few players who can play in that position though, and offer different qualities, I actually quite like that, it might be an advantage on some games.

I too think we need a quality and creative midfielder, and I really hope Galliani wil bring one. Well, now that Berluscni isn't Italy's PM anymore, we can hope! Big Grin

RE: Winter Mercato 11'/12' - Mystik - 11-09-2011

I agree we have a few players who can play in that position but it's not like they're particularly amazing at it. My vision is to have Boateng play in the old Seedorf position and for us to use an ACTUAL trequartista behind the strikers. But I agree it's good to have players who are flexible. We need players who are willing to do a lot of running too because that's what the modern midfielder is expected to do now. Which reminds me..when is Flamini expected back in the team?

RE: Winter Mercato 11'/12' - Jay Crisp - 11-09-2011

Flamini around Feb maybe then end of Feb.

I am curious whom are you referring to?

I'm referring to nocerino, aquilani and just in general, things aren't like they used to where you could get a player like kaka for 8mln from sao paulo.. try buying neymar for under 30mln or even ganso for that matter under 20-25.. no real talents come cheaply anymore because clubs recognize talent and know what they can get for it the thing that makes it worst is clubs like real/barca/mancity who will dump big money on these players puts us at a disadvantage because if we cant dish out 40 million someone like mancity will easily do so

I don't think so. Udinese bought Sanchez for 3M (according to Wikipedia), Palermo bought Pastore for about 4M, Ilicic for 2M etc etc, there are some examples of talented young and cheap players. It's more to do with reputation than talent in my opinion.

the other poster is right there is plenty of value in the market pastore for 9 million euros jovetic for 7 million euros hernanes for 11 million euros and they are the more expensive end of the scale, if you look at specialist like udinese sanchez 4 million euro badu 0.5 million torje 5 million armero 1.5 million asamoah 1 million isla 0.6 million zapata 0.5 million di natale 0.1 million you begin to see what a great scouting network and the willingness to take a risk can get you in terms of value and i am sure if you looked at arsenal and porto transfer history you would get much of the same kind of deals. admittedly you would need a scouting network like udinese which in my opinion is the best in italy maybe europe where as milan by the looks of it just have briada, still milan were first to look at bringing in pastore lamela and hernanes so the scouts can't be that bad just the lack of will by the management to take a risk.

Of course if we are talking about brazilian players at the moment that is a whole new dynamic with the domestic clubs becoming more financially secure and the players being offered much more competitive wages it is only really going to get more expensive to get anyone of real potential from brazil unless you steal them when they are 15 like man utd with fabio and rafeal or inter with coutinho. As for established players please lets be realistic big names cost big money even if they are on the last year of their contracts or outcast from a club someone is always willing to stamp up the cash for the name and when you are short on transfer funds and have real problems with the wage budget you are probably going to miss out.

(11-09-2011, 02:51 PM)theaxeofpain Wrote: Why? Do you think Pato-Podolski-Goetze would be better than Ibra-Pato-Robinho? Say it is realistic for the sake of the argument, Goetze is very young, and though undoubtly a great talent, we have El92, who might not be better than him, but still can become one of the best players in that position. Podolski doesn't really convince me in the big stage (national team aside). Even if we had the money to buy say Torres, Aguero, Goetze, etc etc it would be foolish to spend them on an already established area. Look at our attack: it's the best in the league, with 23 goals in 10 games, and 18 goals alone in the last 5 matches, even without Pato, our most clinical striker.

We don't need anymore strikers, even though Cassano is out for quite some time, we have Ibra, Pato, Robinho, Inzaghi, El Shaarawy, Paloschi (on loan at Chievo) plus a lot of youngsters with some decent potential, who could use a bit of playing time to develop. We only need a Van Bommel replacement, and possibly a better-Nocerino for the Champions League, even though we are yet to see what he can offer in that stage. There's also Merkel and Strasser who are very talented players, and not counting talented players in our Primavera team like Valoti, Fossati, Calvano etc.

We have also a good defense, that is starting to pick itself up. Maybe we could use a better left-back, a backup right-back just in case, and a long-term Nesta replacement, although I would wait for Rodrigo Ely and Ricardo Ferreira to develop, since we have Mexes who can cover Nesta for some time.

There's a fine line between spending wisely and spending a lot just for the sake of it.

I rest my case.

As I put it in my previous posts,we can use some more speed at our frontline in order to upgrade counter quality.both pordorski and gotze have pace and can play flanks.only pato is fast among our forwards, that's not enough to battle barca and real.

Our objective is CL champion, and we should fight for it now.Not to nouriture some promising lads like es92 grow to win in furture.

If only everyone could understand this.

Even Bilbao and Levante can battle your mighty barca and real, why the hell we, defending champions of Serie A and 7-times CL winners, can't? And do you think just a mere "more speed" to "upgrade counter quality" is more important than repairing our f***ed up midfield? Find 2 men to "replace" the Brazil NT captain and the best forward in Italy NT, it is your priority, than find men to REALLY replace FOUR of our aging midfielders, ALL of them play in same position (CM), and TWO of them happens to be our captain and vice-captain?

You need to learn about priority scale, man. So many things are good, but you need to balance: between what's urgent and what's not, between what's easier and what's harder, and to find the optimum between all those.

Another poster summed up what I thought about this. Every talent is expensive it's more of reputation than of talent. So we should find our Pastore not in Palermo, but in Huracan, for example; or we should seek for our M'Vila in Amiens, not in Rennes. Or we should have balls to purchase Goetze BEFORE Dortmund wins everything, not now when everybody especially his club comfortably put 40M pricetag on his forehead. Second, even Ozil, Khedira, and Sahin, the best players in Bundesliga 1-2 years ago, moved to Real Madrid with total sum less than 25M. You think it's impossible? We can do that, as others have pointed, with:
1. Excellent scouting network.
2. Excellent negotiators.
3. Big name to attract players.
And I believe we have all those.

Messi, according to most people here, is the best player on earth now, playing for the best team on earth, and how much they paid for him? Almost nonexistent. Find our own Messi, and avoid buying our CR7 like Madrid do (buying him when he's already the best in the world... crazy) because we are not them.

You make some good points...and all that I would add here is that Milan tends to want the finished article, for "instant impact" as opposed to investing in a player in the hope/anticipation that he will become "world class"...

We would have to have a major policy shift for us to target a "pre-Palermo Pastore", or a youth system that is actually designed to produce Maldinis and Abates, and actually feed players into the senior squad, as opposed to one that produces players (apparently) to use as bargaining chips to get established players....

Our scouting network for me is below that of Udinese.....way below. Perhaps because it has a different focus?

Milan tbh, are different to Udinese in that we need success every year, while they don't operate under the same pressures. Barca has a culture of growing and indoctrinating players into a system, which their managers are usually forced into accepting, or end up with poor results and a short tenure. What Barca will do, though, is to buy a "missing piece" to complete the side.

Our "culture" is to play attractive football, and win trophies as often as possible, regardless of the "style", which can change manager to manager (with the Berlu caveat that we play wih 2 strikers the only commonality).

I do hope that we try to achieve a better balance, and as such, alter the design, and as such end product provided by the Primavera set-up, while adjusting the scouting network to focus on players that have high probability of developing in the European game in the shortest timespan.

Not an easy task when the majority of fans demand success every season.
