Santacroce: One of the most promising Italian central defenders ... few years ago. He suffered an injury last season if I'm not wrong (and some minor injuries) and he didn't manage to take a starting spot again since he came back. The guy shouldn't be that expensive, he could turn into a very good defender as well as a mediocre one. Buying him would be a kind of bet.
De Silvestri: I always thought he was a good RB. The guy is physically and technically good, he just made bad choices of career IMO (joining Fiorentina at the wrong time). Anyway, not sure if he's been better than Abate this season, let's say they have completely different skills. So such a player could be a great purchase as he would be a sub for Abate but wouldn't be that far from his level and could even be better, so we would have two good and young RB with De Silvestri in Milan.
Criscito: Started his career as a CD, and since he is in Genoa, he plays on the left side of the defence. Some people don't rate him really highly, others think he's not good to play as a LB, but there are also people thinking he will be a great defender in a near future. I don't know what to think, I never was that impressed by him as a LB (but I think he's as good as Antonini, well, he is better in defence for sure). Anyway, he would be a good purchase, though a bit expensive, as he could play as a LB and CD if needed.
Buying these three players at the same time would be a great mercato BUT wouldn't solve our problems about the great defender taking the place of Nesta when he will retire.

Actually, only Criscito is good now. For FM, I like Santacroce as RB and Criscito as LB

unfortunately, none of any above-mentioned Italian defenders are good enough. makes me miss so much the golden generation of Italy who are phasing out.

Good enough for what ?
Criscito, Santacroce and De Silvestri have their place in our team as long as Oddo or Bonera have their place ... If Oddo can be our #2 RB, then De Silvestri can be that too for sure as he is better than Oddo.
We have only Antonini as our LB, so Criscito would be welcome (if we want a defensive minded LB) ...
And then, Santacroce would be an improvement over Bonera ...
They would be perfect (all together) to complete our Serie A roster. Of course, unless they improve a lot, they won't improve our first team that much so as a consequence, they would be "useless" for CL as we need one or two new starters to be a serious contender again in this competition.
So all depends on what are our goals in the season: if we tend to prefer Serie A to build a strong team slowly and then be again a real contender for CL (logical way to work: national then international, not the contrary), they would be perfect IMO. Again, all of them at the same time, not just one.

Sorry, I wasn't being clear when I said "not good enough." I meant as good as the golden generation like Totti, Nesta, Cannavaro, Zambrotta, Pippo, Vieri, ADP, or even Iuliano. No young player today at Italy is good enough to walk directly into the first 11 as a teenager in a big club and convincingly hold on to the place.
I wasn't comparing them to our current players like Antonini. And yes, I would welcome the names you mentioned into our club with open arms.

I think Di Silvestri is a very good fullback. You should see him in the Fiorentina vs Bayern game in the knockout phases last year, he raped Ribery.

I don't necessarily agree. If Strasser is to develop into a first team squad player, then he needs games. He's 20, soon to be 21 and is clearly a senior squad player, around the right point in his career to start finding his feet at senior level. Therefore, we have 2 options to help him grow. One is to give him space to find first team opportunities, meaning giving him a role as a backup to first team players. Making him third or fourth choice will mean he gets little to no game time, which won't help him grow.
The second option is to send him out on loan or co-ownership to get games. This can help him grow, but could hamper his growth if he's not played.
Results are important, but Strasser has shown he can cope with responsibility as a backup in the first team squad and make a contribution (moreso than some senior players now). The question is if he's mature enough to play a more important role in the squad.
