RE: Paolo Maldini (3) thread - xudong - 03-18-2014

With Galliani in power, there is no way Maldini is coming back. I am glad that the bomb is now dropped in public, and let's see what Berlusconi has to do/say.

@honsano: I think you may be right. Galliani simply does not want anyone to get too popular. This guy is getting ridiculous in craving for power. Will he be that crazy that he would rather see Milan demise? I guess we will never know.

The way forward is to get others on board but that would mean Galliani accepting he is wrong/incapable of doing it alone and in need of help (something a proud person won't do on such a big stage). Pretty much he is saying is if Milan can go forward the only realistic option is Galliani out as he just won't play with others.

I think this will be an essential wedge between Milan and Galliani. I can't remember something like this happening in Milan in the past 15 or so years I have been following them. Someone so public dropping hte hammer on Galliani. Ouch. Time for Berlu to step in. This stuff is just beginning to stain the reputation of Milan worse than our individual play.

Do you guys think Galliani may be the reason Seedorf didn't get to bring along all the players he initially said he was going to like Staam and Crespo to provide coaching to individual units?

This isn't the only time that someone has criticised Galliani so publicly. In the last six months, the guy's been regularly criticised in public. Barbara's comments back before Christmas that almost lead to Galliani quitting, The Curva's recent protest (admittedly they aren't quite the high profile figures otherwise talking, but it was a very high profile protest), Berlusconi's comments yesterday and now Maldini's interview, which is the only one that names him, but to me this is a minor detail (Galliani's all but said Barbara's attack was on him and there's no one else who can be implicated by Silvio's comments).

Quite frankly, it's incredible that Galliani's still at Milan, as his reputation has been dragged through shit by some pretty high profile people, never mind that one of them is his boss who he was saying would be his president for life just a couple of months ago. According to an interview with Gianluca Di Marzio, who was on Beyond the Pitch recently, Galliani actually wants to be a part of the long term future of Milan Facepalm

About sharing power, I think Galliani's basically been forced (by the Berlusconis) to find a Sporting Director to come into Milan. Here's the ironic thing, the 2 leading candidates so far can't/won't come because of him. Maldini obviously already had his role defined with Barbara, but Galliani threw his toys out of the pram and went out with his public outburst, meaning Maldini is now left out (despite clearly being the first choice of the Berlusconi family, as it's evident that what Barbara wants is what Silvio's listening to).

The next was Sogliano, a person actually apparently chosen by Galliani himself, who rejected the job as he doesn't want to work with Galliani. This is just absurd, as this means people are outright saying no to Galliani after he's offering them a job and is even trying to convince them to come after they reject him and they reject him because he's at the club. You want to look pathetic, this is the way to do it.

Finally there's also Andrea Berti of Atletico Madrid who apparently rejected the role pretty quickly.

Honestly, I have lots of issues with Milan atm, many of which Maldini has quite clearly spoken out about. However, the biggest problem we have, the problem really holding us back from moving forward is Galliani.

Let's just hope that this is just one of those usual BS that is characteristic of Galliani. Facepalm The later he leaves, the more tarnished his legend/image. His crave for power has hindered his judgment. He could have left with dignity and leaving behind himself only great memories. Facepalm

2006 was an important year for Milan. Shevchenko left in an unprecedented manner; Milan almost got Ibrahimovic, we almost got Buffon, we almost got Moggi to replace Galliani. 7 and half years, here we are. Undecided

I came across the English translation of the full interview just now. Here's the various parts:

http://sulia.com/milanello/f/11576f06-1f49-4238-a34a-8b5d085065c8/

http://sulia.com/milanello/f/a583e5d4-c325-4196-9479-21bb2f73609a/

It's actually a more interesting read than I even thought. Before I go into why, I just want to clarify a mistake I made when interpreting the interview earlier, as I said Maldini said Seedorf could get sacked by the summer and it would be an idea to bring in a more pragmatic coach. Actually, what he said was bringing in a pragmatic caretaker for the rest of this season and starting fresh with Seedorf for next season.

Anyway, the reason I found this interview really interesting when reading it fully is because the things he's saying are exactly the same things Barbara was saying when she first attacked Galliani. We're talking about improving the scouting network, lack of proper spending and development of the squad, surrounding yourself with the right people and sharing responsibility and bringing back the values of Milan with past players etc. I think there's some clear conversations being had between Berlusconi and Maldini before comments are said publicly. I say Berlusconi and not Barbara, because I'm certain Silvio's got his hand in this as well.

On another note which I never commented on before, it's interesting that Maldini says he's watched pretty much every game Milan has played in the last 2 years. Quite honestly, that means like us he's been suffering this nonsense as a fan too.

RE: Paolo Maldini (3) thread - xudong - 03-18-2014

I doubt that Barbara could totally sideline Silvio. I know that Silvio's hands are full (I can think of a few inappropriate jokes here, hint: bunga bungaIcon_lol2), but kicking out Galliani is too big an issue to not keep him informed/involved. I say that he was the main mastermind. Remember that Silvio actually wanted to use Moggi to replace Galliani back in 06? It failed because Moggi suddenly became unavailable. :d

but I like the smell of this great conspiracy that the two most important surnames in Milan history (Berlusconi, Maldini) are now teaming up to get rid of Galliani. :d

@ACMILAN1983 Thank you for the full interview, it makes for a very interesting read.

It's obvious that Galliani can no longer or hasen't been able to do his job anymore, he's just too blind to see it/want to admit it. Modern football has changed, we need the right people in the right place to do a good job, it's no longer a one man show.

Galliani has to go home period.

I actually agree. Barbara's attack on Galliani would never be done without Silvio knowing first (not to say he thought of it, but rather he's not against her challenging Galliani's position). It's like post Sassuolo, when she effectively said enough is enough about Allegri and nothing was said by anyone. If Silvio really meant anything with his splitting power, she would be reprimanded for overstepping her duties.

I don't think this is a full conspiracy, but I do think people have their own agendas. For example, I think Maldini's always wanted to come back to Milan and has ideas on what needs doing to improve the sporting sector of the club. He's spoken to the Berlusconis (through Barbara), sharing his ideas and now he's made them essentially public.

Barbara has specific plans as to how to progress the club in a modern era as until now we've followed the same structure for 30 years. She's smart, but essentially a business woman, not a woman whose expertise are in football. Therefore, she's obviously had conversations with people she's interested in bringing in to see out her vision and help improve the sporting sector with the skillsets (i.e. Maldini).

As for Silvio, I think we're looking at someone whose got a lot on his plate, but is aware Milan hasn't been managed well for a number of years now. He's probably more aware than anyone that a generational change is due and Barbara in his eye is the future leader of Milan. Problem is Galliani's position has been incredibly strong at Milan and if Silvio is to act out against Galliani, it could end very badly for him (both because of their long history, but also that Galliani's probably got a lot of dirt on him). Therefore, he's letting the scenario play out between Barbara and Galliani while he himself intervenes every so often to try and appear the hero, while keeping Galliani sweet.

That's cool, I thought it was a great read. Galliani's good, actually really good, in some aspects of his job. The problem is he's also someone I think is still stuck in methods from years past and just doesn't work in a modern, one aspect of which is sharing duties.

RE: Paolo Maldini (3) thread - ACMILAN1983 - 03-19-2014

I was reading recent comments on R&B forums to see what's being said about Maldini's interview and someone posted this video:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E5sqyEtzz3A

I just thought it was a great watch. What really struck me though was while watching my thought was that normally youtube clips like this make the player look much better than they are, but in this case, this was just how good the player was.

RE: Paolo Maldini (3) thread - ACMILAN1983 - 04-02-2014

While I'm embroiled in a discussion with myself about Maldini lately Big Grin I just thought it was interesting that Barbara in her presentation at Casa Milan has said Maldini is welcome to return to Milan and said she's had contact with him (she wasn't clear if this was from last year or there's been new contact).

So part of this could mean that what was reported about her not wanting him back after the Gazzetta interview is untrue (or she's just outright lying in public).

At the same time, what was interesting was her comment that Silvio speaks to her about tactics, but soon as it gets too involved the discussion is had with Galliani, which she feels is right. The press from the start said that she's not interested in taking control of the sporting aspects of the club and wants to hire people to do that, while Maldini has said she's not an expert in football or footballers. It seems she's happy to admit this and is making it clear she wants others who have more expertise to manage the sporting aspects.

Maldini's own interview didn't make a return seem likely so not sure what is what.
