RE: Summer Mercato 2011 - fLame - 09-02-2011

Hitman, chill.

If I was an Inter fan - I would be more pist off, if I was a Juve fan - I would be more pist off, if I was a fan of any EPL club besides ManU - I would be more pist off.

Actually, if I was a ManU fan I would be pist off because of their failure to get Sneijder.

There are only 2 clubs on top of their game now - Real and Barca. They are simply unreachable to us at the moment. + FFP kicks in NOW, I hope it changes football for the better and gives us more chances. +let's not assume we are smarter than all of Milan's management put together.

Especially Galliani, he did the best he could with the resources presented. If they didn't do more, there were reasons probably unknown to us.
It's easy to talk in hindsight, but this isn't a candy store, and we aren't kids waiting to receive our gifts every year, so I don't see a reason to be pist off if there was no candy this year.

Stick to what's realistic, and I promise you you shouldn't be disappointed.

Now, if Allegri teaches to play as a team unit, I strongly believe we can beat anyone, except for Spain's top 2.

Think about Real and Barca is sick, very good teams, very audacious if not dirty management.

Think about getting Aquilani and Nocerino, even Montolivo (de Rossi?) for less than 10m is sick too.

RE: Summer Mercato 2011 - Gabriel426 - 09-02-2011

I think FFP will cause more harm than good to the game at the end. At this moment, I would say 99% of the best players in the world play under UEFA governing bodies, But once FFP kicks in and players realize they are not getting money, they will move on to greener pasture. Now I am not talking about the Messi or Ronaldos, rather I am talking about those solid players or middle players who will make the jump. A lot of people think that FFP will create a more balance field for all teams but to me I think teams will end up losing their stars players for nothing or force sell. Since there will only be a few teams able to afford 20+mil players purchase. Personally, I think having people like Roman or those Sheik or Barca and Real actually saved more teams than harming them. Since the overpaid for players thus allowing teams to earn more money than they should. Put it this way, if Milan is going to sell Silva, would you rather Milan sell him for 25mil or 65mil. Now I am not saying UEFA should not do anything about it but there is another way such as salary cap. BC it will provide a more balance playing field since all teams must spend the same money on salary.

While Real got Sahin and Athimtop for 10 mil that's sick too.

Thats a huge difference between a WC players and a great compliment players. An example would be a few yrs ago, the mid trio of Fletcher, Park and Carrick. Where none of them individually were WC, together they formed a WC midfield b/c they each compliment each other well.

It's funny how you said Monty and Aqua still have not reach the top levels yet. Since i think all players have the potential to reach the top levels one time or another but can they make it, is another story. Carrick like you said is not and never was WC, but like Monty and Aqua when he was mid 20s, people kept saying he could be WC..... Point I am trying to make is that, sometime as fans we tend to read too much into the players potentials and project them to an unreal expectations. Like we look at a what a player is doing when they are early 20s and think
that he will only get better b/c he is young......thus thinking he will one day be at the level of the best players at that time. Most of these players never make it, not b/c they don't have talents or lazy or injuries but b/c they are really just as good as they can be in their early 20s. Like if a new early 20s striker scored 10 goals in his debut season in Serie A, some might think he will one day score 25 goals a season with
better teammates and plays better.....but maybe he will just ended up scoring around 10 goals a season for the rest of his career with one or two seasons where he scored 15 or 18. Thats actually sounds a lot like Borriello.

I have to disagree with you on Ambro, as I think he's a much more prominent midfielder than given credit for. He's been at the club since 1998 and has played a key role in numerous teams, all have which had different characteristics, so to say he merely complimented the set up I think is difficult.

About Aquilani and Montolivo reaching their peaks, it's only my personal opinion but I'm convinced they have much more to offer than what they've shown in the career so far (Nocerino too). Unlike Carrick and Fletcher, who I personally didn't ever rate as highly, I think the Italians have the ability to really go far, but until now circumstances and weaknesses have prevented this. Truth is though, I'm really hoping Allegri can get the best out of them as otherwise they won't add a great deal.

On Ambro, well, like I said, that's my personal opinion. Also there is nothing wrong with being a great compliment players to superstars. On top of that, do you think that Ambro, during the Carlo area, can help Roma become a real contender? While I think Pirlo and Kaka can. To me that's the differences right there.

You're right that there's nothing wrong with a player who compliments others well, I just don't see Ambro in that category.

In the same way Van Bommel over the years has played in PSV, Barca, Bayern and now Milan at a high level, Ambro has played at Milan in 1999, 2002-2007 and the current Milan at a very high level, and all of these teams had different midfield set ups. Not only did he play in these teams, he was vital too, as he added a stability in 1999 which was lacking after we lost Desailly, he was a wall in the 2007 CL triumph and last season, until his injury in January when we got Van Bommel, he was critical in leading the team to the top of Serie A as he added stability and versatility in the midfield.

This isn't the same as someone like Fletcher, who was great in a specific role in a specific system, but otherwise has disappeared since.

As for whether Ambro could have helped Roma to win the league in the past, we just need to look back to this past season. In much of the first part of the first half of the season, Ambro was injured and we lacked stability, which affected our results. As soon as he returned, our system was changed and it was critical to our stability and this coincided with a run of very positive results, which continued in the second half of the season much due to MVB taking on his role. So, while he doesn't offer a moment of brilliance like Pirlo or Kaka, he can make a big difference in a championship winning side.

RE: Summer Mercato 2011 - will4li - 09-02-2011

Great market so far, we covered our weak links at left fullback and backup CB,we overhaul senior DM department with a whole italy NT bunch.my only disappoitment is we missed kucka,I think he is a natrural replacement for van bommel.

The most impressive part of this market is the cost we spend, credit to the management.we have a great structure now.

To compete 2 giants of la liga, we need some game changer,I hope we can get hamsik, baloteli and andre ayew in winter or next summer.

I was actually mentioning this a few weeks ago as to how both Milan and Real had progressed since Milan beating them two seasons ago. Two yrs ago, I would say Milan and Real were pretty even bc Real got better talents while Milan had better team play and a more solid defensive unit. While last year, Real sure got the upper hand even though Milan did drew with Real at home. Then you look at the steps Real made last season, from a team that got trashed 5-0 to Barca to a team that could match Barca.

Should Milan be afraid of Real, no, but they should respect Real as a team that could beat them heavily due to their style of play. A note of ref., would be the results against the Spurs for both teams in the knockout stage.

@Dev, I am by no means saying Ambro is crap, just that to me calling him World Class is really a stretch. There is no doubt that MVB and Ambro can settle and lead a midfield, but MVB for me is a better player than Ambro. To me, I would rank MVB with Davids and DeSailey. While Ambro is just a level lower, and he is a better player than Fletcher.
I am not trying to down play the importance of Ambro, but if Pirlo or Kaka were not playing during Carlo era, the team struggled. But if Ambro was not playing, the team still win. Like I said, he played a big part in the team, and that's why he was a great player for the team.

RE: Summer Mercato 2011 - Jay Crisp - 09-02-2011

I had to laugh that Aquailani was Mr X all along.
I mean if that was the case how come there was NO!! counter bid when Juve offered 10 million , or when Fiorentina had agreed with Liverpool to take him on loan. It's a B.S story but to be expected , just frustrating.
If our Mr X is Aquilani the champion to lead us further in the CL then it's meh.

Ambro: in His prime 25-30 he was never a regular or a sure starter. He's a very trustworthy capable player that can relied on.Not a flashy player but gets the job done , would I ever say he was WC well for me he wasn't .At times he played fantstically (never forget the goal against PSV that got us to the CL final in 05) but I don't think he was WC.
I rate him higher than Fletcher and not far behind V.Bommel at his best.

RE: Summer Mercato 2011 - abbeyleemania - 09-02-2011

Van Bommel was a wall in front of our defence last year. Passing+Long balls ability, he rarely moves forward, However his tackling+destroying+positioning, reading the game+a little bit dirty style is world class. Van Bommel was the leader of PSV. Ambrosini is good player, good with ball, good on air balls, though he lacks last touch and finishing. He is not a Van Bommel on defensive zone. Ambrosini was never a starter for us when we play with 2 strikers Sheva with Rui and Kaka in 4-3-2-1. He was a sub who were replacing a tired player from Seedorf, Gattuso and Pirlo. Mostly Carlo was subbing Rui with him and play Seedorf as trequartista and Kaka and Sheva in attack. He was never a starter at that time. However we played with him in midfield after Sheva's sale. Whenever Kaka was in hot form, it worked great but it didnt work in Serie A cuz Kaka was less decisive when he doesnt find space.

Real Madrid is Barcelona match? off course they improved on tracking back and pressing with attacking players, They are now destroying Barcelona's game with right plan. Not with Pepe in midfield. But still Barcelona was without key players and most of their players was not top form. Real Madrid did it without new players. We can improve our game next season, if Abate and Boateng improves more for instance.

if you were Galliani, what would you do? You would sign Kaka with 20 m euros a year wages plus 50 m euros to Real. or Ganso that Santos is asking for 55 m euros? Or Pastore for 43 m euros? Hamsik for 40-50 m euros?

Btw Hamsik never played a CL game before. You expect him Milan to bring a CL? Hernanes? Hernanes is playing at AMC for a long time. He was a AMC at Sao Paolo. He played at Lazio at there for all season.

RE: Summer Mercato 2011 - Gabriel426 - 09-02-2011

Like I mentioned a few pages ago, of all the players that switched teams and is affordable and available to Milan, I think Milan could have gone for Inler and Vidal from the start and try to get Diego at the end. As having Inler and/or Vidal in Milan should improve the squad while Milan would probably won't renew Ambro and put Flamini on sale to kick off the rebuilding process. It is pointless to talk about players who stayed bc maybe they were never available. Thus, of the list you made, I will only say Pastore is not worth that money at this moment. PSG is really buying the player he might become but there is also a chance he might not. That's why I would rather see Milan buy players who are 25-28 bc Milan is paying for the player himself instead of the player he might become.
