I thought our mercato was closed... Anyway, probably our best transfer this summer. Devilcool

Anyway, still rumours about a Lassana Diarra loan deal. I would be a bit disappointed if nothing happens today, if not Diarra then someone else in midfield. Even a secure option for Ganso in January would make my day slightly better.

Elia to Juventus is official...can someone confirm me what his best position is, because I think now with both Elia and the Estigarribia they are a bit overcrowded and we might be getting someone in loan form from them..since Galliani and Marrota dinned together...

Marchisio though not in a great form will be a seriously good purchase. Will give us much needed options in the midfield department.

Elia's best position is as a winger. Although right-footed I think he often plays on the left hand side. Wouldn't mind Marchisio.

I don't get all this Barca talk lately, we talk more about them on the forum than ourselves. Big Grin

Anyway, with regards to the debate of loving or hating Barca, I think for any football fan it's hard not to appreciate or be inspired by Barca's football. They dominate games completely with their possession, their off the ball movement and pressing is exemplary and their quality on the ball is superb. What makes them most impressive is the fact they play as a team, a single unit on the pitch. Although they have aspects we can really appreciate (Messi's ability and Guardiola's a class act), they also have things we don't like (arrogance and money which they don't have). How they act is up to them, but as a football fan, their play has my full respect.

That said, that is their footballing philosophy and it works great for them, but it is not the only way to play the game, and we need to play with our own philosophies and ideals. Personally, I think there are aspects of their game I'd like us to see more of, such as pressing as a unit extremely quickly when the opposition has the ball (this is heavily imprinted on me since Sacchi's Milan). If we can do this as well as they do, then we'd be an absoloutely deadly team especially given our ability to make quick direct attacks. It also seems Allegri has pointed towards this over the summer as I remember him speaking of it.

Getting back to us, I think we have potential to have a really good season. In Serie A, we are the team to beat, and it's difficult to see a team that's capable of really pushing us right now, and really it's up to us to play as we know we can.

More importantly, we've made some smart purchases replacing a weak link like Sokratis with Mexes, strengthening LB with Taiwo (who at least looks defensively solid), and added quality in midfield with Aquilani. Allegri generally wants 2 players for every position in the squad, and he has it. Midfield is the most worrying area due to Flamini's injury and ideally we'll get someone like Diarra to rotate with Rino, but if not then we can still work with what we have, as players like Boateng can drop back.

Whilst we didn't get the star names we hoped for, this squad is capable of challenging anyone in it's current form. We're not as good as Barca or Real (on paper), but we're a very good side which is now aware of it's abilities and has found it's own personality.

For this reason, I'm optimistic about this season, even without a last minute signing.

RE: Summer Mercato 2011 - Jay Crisp - 08-31-2011

i find it hard to be optimistic fore the coming season , we are good for serie A but as for CL no go.Last 16 at best.

We'll rejuvenate in 09 no 10 no 11 no it will happen in 12.Loads of promises and there was , we will sign a champion we know the champion is Mr X , no no we'll try we might we are complete.Fcat is we will be starting the season like this.

.................Abbiatti.........................

Abate......Nesta....Silva......Zambro/Nini

.................V.Bommell.......................

..Rino.........................Seedorf...........

...............Boateng................................

.....Pato............Ibra............................

No mr x no change no rejuvenation just an all old guy midfield that is a year older...Dress it up anyway you want that is our team like it or lump it...Binho Cassano Aquilani only players to make a difference from bench.

Sending Oddo away is like winning Serie A while if Bonera is gone will be like winning CL. come on Galli, let me feel like winning a CL with the sale of Bonera.
