We weren't going to be better off though. We were finishing in EL places with those that you listed. It would have been the the same (if not worse) with Cutrone. 18m was a great bit of business. Put it this way, we bought Theo Hernandez with that money.
But yes, we didn't quite get the CF signings right. Although, Piatek left the following season while Andre Silva had already gone before Cutrone I believe (on loans). Lapadula and Kalinic were prior to/same time as Cutrone so they weren't replacements. Rebic/Borini different positions.
Anyway, I'm all for keeping good youth players to be squad options over signing mediocrity for millions. I jist don't think Cutrone (and to your point, any of those you listed) had enough quality to match what Milan should be fighting for. Hence, it's no surprise we were finishing/fighting for EL places with those players....and now, none of them are here and we see the difference.

According to the latest from Di Marzio, the name at the top of the list to reinforce the midfield if Fofana, but Manchester United and Atletico Madrid have entered the race and this has complicated things.
The Monegasques are now asking for €35m to sell, which is obviously a huge rise in the demands for a player who has 11 months left on his contract. This has forced the management to evaluate other options.
So yeah, very good job!

AC Milan have been told that the asking price for Youssouf Fofana has now nearly doubled because of the competition that has entered the scene, and now they are having to look into alternatives.

Love the mercato , absolute B.S and hyperbole most of the time. Doubt anyone is going to pay that when the don't need to. Maybe Man Utd

Sky confirm Di Marzio’s report regarding Youssouf Fofana. Manchester United and Atletico Madrid have now entered the race for the Frenchman and that has seen his asking price rocket to €35m, forcing Milan to look into alternative targets.
