Some news regarding the marketing side of the club. Laura Masi, who has been a marketing director for a very long time is no longer with the club. Instead, we've got Jaap Kalme, who did the role at Ferrari in the past.
Zubair, Essien might bring the mentality, but it's still just a short term solution that will only work for at most a couple of years. As we've seen with Kaka, transmitting that mentality is easier said than done. From this perspective, for me the culture and mentality of the club must be set from the very top, which at this point is in turmoil in itself. I personally think we can do this in numerous ways though:
- We need to get rid of Galliani. I know of his history and success, but the guy has run the club into the ground in little over the past half decade.
- We need a new director (call it sporting or general manager or whatever) whose primary role is dealing in the market. A guy who understands the market and has a modern approach rather than Galliani's archaic methods. Sean Sogliano's the biggest link so far for this role.
- We need a Maldini as a sporting director who is in charge of making decisions on the sporting aspect of the club. This means deciding on the long term future and philosophy of where the club is headed and making decisions towards building the squad for his coaches. He would also be vital in integrating the youth setup and senior setup as well as playing a role in deciding who comes in during transfer windows. I can even see him developing a role to help conclude transfer deals in the future, much like Braida who dealt with smaller transfers while Galliani usually worked the bigger, more complex ones. I want him because not only does he understand the club and puts emphasis on values, but he was a player who successfully spanned 4-5 generations of football, meaning he understands how to adapt to evolution in the game. Finally, he's a person who has outright said Sacchi's side was the best he's played in, which for me is important for developing the culture philosophy of the club...
- Personally, I would want to bring in Sacchi on a consulting role in the club. Directly or indirectly, this guy's ideas on the game has influenced the most successful periods under Berlusconi's ownership. Initially, it was his side that characterised Milan as unique and special. Next, Capello's squad was built up from the foundations of Sacchi's group, continuing the success he started. Finally, Ancelotti built his coaching philosophy based on Sacchi's methods and ideas, albeit adding his own twist. To build for the future we should try to integrate his ideas into the club for the future. To me, it makes sense he helps Maldini bed into his role and help develop the culture of the club, teaching his ideas and philosophy through the club, from the directors, to the coaches and even down to players (all the way from the senior squad to the youth levels). This isn't to say we try to undermine the role of Seedorf or the coaches who would be free to define systems as they feel best, but I would want him to help define the "Milan brand" of football, which we use to decide on how to proceed developing the sporting aspect of the club, to deciding on which players represent the club, who the coach is and the key ideas on how the club plays its football. In my view, this would also be a short term consultation as Sacchi would work with various people in the club (especially Maldini) to help the transition to a new era in the club, without forgetting old values. Bear in mind this is a guy who has worked from top to bottom in many roles over the past 30 years in football.
- We need to define a strict policy on transfer targets based on needs and requirements. This would include developing the scouting sector of the club to quite frankly be better, but would also mean extensive research done on players before buying them, including seeing their mental capacity, physical attributes and technical qualities. This strict policy would also mean buying less players, but selectively choosing players who have the highest chance of being valuable to Milan.
Ultimately, these are some things I'd like to see which I think would help transition the club into a new era. This isn't just about making a generational change with players, the club has to evolve from top to bottom and given our history, we have many figures who can help us redefine the club for a modern era, without losing the culture which we've built so much success on.

We're like dogs out back of a restaraunt waiting for the potato peelings and scraps while others dine on fine cuisine inside.
Our ginormous wage bill is anywhere from 30-40 million over what it should be ,ideally that would be our mercato budget.But we overpay so many players that there is no money left to spend.Whos to blame ? mostly Galliani ,and Berlu for keeping him here its ridiculous to have Serie A biggest wage bill.
10 players at least need to sold ,and 3/4 good ones brought in but it just wont happen.
Look at the mercato Nainggolan → Banega→Jorhinho→Hernanes...got Essien because well free the total cost of Essien after 1.5 is reported be €7/8 million.As ive said Jorginho 22 serie A tested very good big upside €9M 600K wage...I really expect nothing now or for the future how long ? IDK but one thing id for sure people talking about & believing that Doria/Cerci/Iturbe/Romulo/Perin/Fernando type players will be brought in the summer well itll be a big bucket of disappointment

Agree with Dev about what needs to be done. Unless Barbara's given sole power, it won't happen.
As for Nocerino leaving, that's good, but it should have been for good. Next, we needs to see Amelia, Constant, Zaccardo, Birsa & Muntari gone too. That's just for January.
Then, like Dev said, we will need the proper players to fit the system and needs of the squad.
Galliani in charge still scares me, about the Agazzi thing, Essien, etc etc. Wtf when will that shit end?

If we somehow managed to offload Robinho and buy another really good young talent like Maher I'd be relatively pleased with this mercato.
Had we traded Constant for Armero like some previous rumors suggested (until they were written off as just rumors), I'd be pretty happy as well because it gives us a slightly better option as a sub for LB.

You would think that with the way Galliani "spends" on the market, he should be skimpy/careful with wage bills too.
Instead of getting great players on low salary, we are low-quality players on great salary.
I wonder if there is another club that works like Milan. Seriously.

Italian media are reporting Michael Essien did not pass his Milan medical, so could be sent back to Chelsea.
According to La Repubblica, the 31-year-old Ghana international failed tests related to an old knee injury, having ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament twice.
Essien arrived in Milan on Friday evening and had his medical on Saturday morning, but so far has still not signed the contract.
This suggests there are problems and the Rossoneri could pull out of the deal.
He will undergo further stress tests at the Milan Lab in a bid to rescue the transfer, which would’ve been free for the club.
I hope if there's even a hint of the injury for Milan to cancel this, we really don't need another injured player. Got plenty of those around!

I agree. We don't need an old injured player. There should be other options available.

Essien is currently undergoing further tests at Milanello. The deal is still expected to go through. @MichaelEssien

Sounds a bit strange. Well, maybe the problem isn't big. They just want to make further tests to be sure because of his knee operation in the past.
