Bakayoko might not be as good but he with Tonali will fill the void. Adli and Pobega back  in next season as well could minimize Franck's money grubby hands. And I thought Benchrumma and cuckold where snakes !

It's not about him deserving it or not. It's about him being told he can get more somewhere else, either by his agent or hints from other clubs or even just by rumours and media.

I think it's already decided that this is his last season at Milan.

Consistency and loyalty of Barella is unquestionable.

RE: Summer mercato 2021 - ACMmike - 09-04-2021

Quality too. He was integral to Italy's euro win and Merdas title win.

He does a similar job to Kessie in that his work rate in attack and defending is excellent.

Anyway without getting off topic, if Barella got 4.5m that's all Kessie deserves at most... I thought Yoko was just a depth signing but I'm thinking it was to replace Kessie now that this renewal is taking this long.

I encourage everyone to also watch this video of Adli:

We could've really used him this season, he seems like a superstar in the making.

RE: Summer mercato 2021 - Arildonardo - 09-04-2021

Comparing salaries like that is irrelevant. If it's true PSG are willing to offer him €8-10m as rumoured, why would he care if Barella has accepted €4.5m at Inter or if some random guys in a forum think he deserves less? He has no ties to this club other than being a professional footballer who happens to play here. He signed a 5 year contract and stays for 5 years, so he does nothing wrong.

Would I like for this situation to be different? Yes, of course.

The ones that have actually done well will ask astronomical salaries, like Donnarumma and Kessie, because they know they can get more elsewhere.

So we're more likely to end up having to sell.

I don't know if there are a ton of players that we literally do not want to renew at all cost. Take Kessie, a year ago, he was worth nowhere near 6M a year, and I agree with that. If we had offered him 5m a year 12 months ago, he most likely would've accepted it because his market hadn't gone up yet. Now do we want to pay him 5m? It might be a little high but not egregiously bad considering that he was a constant starter in his 20s. Our management has to start doing a better job evaluating and projecting player futures, just like we do with stocks. Without having some way of projecting the future, even if it is not perfect, we cannot survive in this game.

If we have to sell players because they wouldn't renew or ask for more than what we want, then so be it. Kessie a year ago would've gotten us at least 30m, but now we lose him for nothing. 30m is clearly much better than nothing to me.

Because PSG would be willing to give that much to Barella too, there is no reason to believe otherwise, if anything a Euro winner has more value in PSG's eyes.

So you would have more then doubled Kessie's salary a year ago (he's on a 2.2M)? Based on what? Many players are starters in their early 20s. Doesn't mean they deserve 5M. 12 months ago as you pointed out, Kessie's track record was 2 and a half absolute shit years and about 4-5 months of good football. Pioli came in November, and Kessie (and the whole team) improved for those 4 months or so....but then the league stopped in March due to Covid and restarted during the summer under some crazy circumstances. At THAT point he was exactly 2 years away from from his contract expiring. Keep in mind there was basically a non-existent transfer window due to Covid and technically 1 season ended and another one began. So selling and replacing players during that time for a team in growth was not the right thing either. We needed CL and continuity was very important.

I absolutely agree the situation sucks. I absolutely agree that the management have to do a better job of projecting player growth and adjusting salaries not only for what has been achieved, but also for what could be achieved in the future. I hope they learn from all this.
BUT, I absolutely disagree that anywhere in these projections we should be doubling players' salaries. Especially ones that had 4 good months in 3 years with the club.
In that case, let's double up Samu's salary so that we don't lose him for free....because you never know...he's only in his mid 20s, has good tools, and is yet to hit his peak.

I have seen no links or rumours suggesting it as I have with Kessie. It's about what kind of player they are looking for at the time. Even PSG can't buy everyone and give them €8m+.

You are 100% right. But that said player could give a heads up to management and find another team they could all agree to trade to.

If I have a 5 year contract and year 4 new coach comes in and I'm unhappy I talk to Maldini  etc. Give them the heads up.

Anywho goodbye kessie enjoy Paris.  I appreciated his last season but isn't a world-class anything imo
