I would sell Theo and Leao. Keep Reijnders, Pulisic and Maignan. Bring in Chiesa, Ricci and Comuzzo. From other sales, Buy Udogie if possible and a RB. Then we should be ok in serie a. If we make the CL, invest in a striker and another CB. Then we should be ok.

(We just need to know the answer to the following question: Will Bologna start in Round of 16 as defending champion despite finishing at 9th in the league? I guess we will find out very soon.)

Rules are: if one team is placed top 8 but didn't qualified for European competitions, and other team is placed bellow 8th place but play European competitions, they swap places, in order to "balance amount of games". So yeah, Bologna will take our place and start later.
That's why they didn't cared about that Genoa game
Our only chance was to finish above Fiorentina (they lose to Udinese).

The winner of the Coppa Italia gets the #1 seed in the bracket. Usually the winner is always in the top 8, so this hasn't exactly occurred before. The fact that Bologna finished 9th, means that the 8th placed team gets bumped out of the bracket and has to start the campaign early in the tournament.

That certainly makes sense. The winner should be #1 seed.

This is a very interesting rule. It is particularly interesting to learn that it is not necessarily for defending champion placed at #1, but for the European duties.
So, hypothetically, if in the Coppa final, Bologna lost to another team that already qualifies for CL (say, Napoli) hence they will go to EL regardless, then according to the rule, would Bologna stll swap places with the 8th-ranked team?
