RE: Summer mercato 2021 - reza - 08-12-2021 The reason salary cap won't work is because something uniform is needed across all of EU. US (and Canada) is not comparable to all of Europe. How do you make a salary cap that can treat a Belgian league team the same as an EPL team? RE: Summer mercato 2021 - slifersd - 08-12-2021 (08-12-2021, 06:22 PM)Rossonero21 Wrote: This is also my opinion..since several years..salary cap and luxury tax is a tested option in the States and much more efficient than this ridiculous FFP..and more ridiculous we’re the bans because of violations of FFP Salary cap and luxury taxes are fine, but it won't solve all the problem in European soccer. Take PSG for example, if they go over the salary cap by 100M, and have to pay 200M in luxury tax, they will just send the bill to their owner and have him write a check for it. The key for any North America system to work was that all the teams/owners/players worked as a collective and figured out an acceptable way to operate for all parties, nobody tries to circumvent the rules for their own benefit. That spirit of collaboration and trust does not exist at all in UEFA. I mean, are we really supposed to believe UEFA will come down hard and stop PSG from signing literally everyone out there for any reason ever? It is fine to have rules, but when the party that is responsible for upholding the rules plays favorites, those rules are effectively useless anyway. I think UEFA has shown us that they can do whatever they want. ![]() It could be as simple as....IF you want to be admitted in UEFA competitions, you have to adhere to this. You're free to do what you want of course....but then just don't play in the CL because we won't let you. Similar to the SL. Not like they stopped clubs from existing. At the end of the day, they "allowed" clubs to create the SL. But it was simply....SL or UEFA. They have a monopoly, without actually having one. I like the salary cap idea. It's the best way to make European football competitive again. They can make the cap high...let's say 250M a year gross wages, including bonuses. It allows clubs to spend as much, or nowhere near that. You give everyone the opportunity to do this if they want to amd their means allow it. But you limit the bullshit we've been seeing with PSG. I don't like the luxury tax. It's no different then now. PSG will still pay whatever they want. They don't care. Unless the cap is the cap, period. But you pay a luxury tax above certain tiers. For example, 250M salary cap. But you pay luxury tax on the amounts above 200M. So theoretically, no tax up to 200M, and luxury tax on the 200-250 amount. In any case. I Ddon't stand for luxury tax because I don't trust UEFA. they say they will re-distribute that money to the lower leagues and countries....but hell no. That corrupt organization will just line its own pockets. NBA has a soft cap, so it won't solve the problem (as slifersd points out). A hard cap as in NFL might, but it isn't realistic (as reza points out). The only solution is to ESL without PSG.
RE: Summer mercato 2021 - reza - 08-12-2021 FIFA and UEFA are giving millions to every confederation, the amount is often constant or precalculated, not exactly prone to corruption. But of course corruption exists at FIFA/UEFA level but *about redistribution* more corruption happens by those who spend the money at local levels than FIFA/UEFA I still doubt salary cap can work across countries and economies, even within US and Canada it hurts Canadian based teams because the cap is in US dollars so costs of Canadian teams are higher. You can say UEFA will use Euros but then 1 Euro gets a lot more in Portugal than Denmark, never mind the 'poorer' countries in the Eastern bloc for example. If UEFA says 250 million applies to all that doesn't improve too much for teams below the top 5, does it? None of them can spend higher than a few million. This goes back to the Super League idea, a few teams including Milan may be able to spend more but then many more will be left behind almost like now. RE: Summer mercato 2021 - Sampinjon - 08-12-2021 They will just give 100 000 per year to Neymar or whoever ,and than he'll sign sponsorship contract to represent "Qatary Environment Group" or whatever for 25M per year. Salary cap - checked. Crazy roster - checked. Put a cap on sponsorship deals too RE: Summer mercato 2021 - reza - 08-12-2021 A stronger FFP that is actually applied: Teams can only spend up to 70% of revenue on player salaries. Income is calculated by match revenues, etc and yes sponsorship deals but how about capping sponsorships deals relative to revenue. In order to allow poorer teams compete abit more the 70% could be variable depending on revenue. Random example: If PSG say we made 500 million last year so we can spend 350 million on players then only 100 of the 500 could be allowed to have come from sponsorships. But of course corruption exists at FIFA/UEFA level but *about redistribution* more corruption happens by those who spend the money at local levels than FIFA/UEFA. There are also "special" project to "help spread the beautiful game". UEFA funds the building of playgrounds, facilities, infrastructures at lower divisions (countries). Yes, the corruption does happen AT those countries....but UEFA officials are directly at play and pick and choose these special projects. I'll give you 1 example. The stadium in the city I was born was supposed to be renovated. Partly with UEFA funds. Those funds were to be sent incrementally as work was being done, via the national football federation. This is a drop in the bucket for UEFA. A few hundred thousand Euros. But it's an example of something that actually happened. Even Platini came to the city several times to visit the project. Let me tell you where it stands more then 10 years later......nowhere. Shut down. Started some things, never finished. Utilizing construction companies already pre-determined at the local level with inflated costs, etc. Yes, the money was stolen there....but not for one second do I, or anyone else familiar with this, think that UEFA (Platini, other officials, etc) did not also take a significant chunk of that. And there are countless of these projects all over Europe I'm sure. Once or twice, ok. But I've heard the same stories from others in Eastern Europe. It's no coincidence. RE: Summer mercato 2021 - reza - 08-12-2021 I am sure examples exist but solutions are not solving the corruption. So many of the people that pro super league are for it cause of less corruption but I am convinced it will not have that effect at all. In the case of what PSG are doing the solution will be to strongly apply things that are possible and strengthen them if possible too, just because UEFA is corrupt doesn't mean those who circumvent them (PSG) are cleaner. My point is in UEFA vs PSG I will still side with UEFA. Even Super League vs UEFA. It is not an endorsement of UEFA, it is that the 'alternative' is not better. |
