Milan new transfer strategy! - Gregorio - 07-02-2011

I read a lots of posts recently, and I see many people doesn't really understand the main reason behind Milan policy and what Galliani is doing right now. But in fact, it is very simple and logical!
They just critize the strategy, Berlusconi and mainly Galliani, because he is not spending crazy money on players, and don't understand the deals what he is making.

Tell you the truth, Galliani is a genius, one of the best director (negotiator) in this business, what he is doing recently is the future that many other manager will follow. Of course the idea is not new, came from the Barca model, to invest in young players, and try to integrate into the senior squad but he improved this strategy even further.

Everybody knows, that unfortunately Italian clubs don't have the spending power anymore, and from next year they can't rely on their rich owners presents either because of the FFP.

Knowing and accepting this, take a look what he has done and doing right now:

1. He balanced the book with Kaka sale (it was very painful, but very logical move, because he already saw the future) Just to remind everybody, Barca, Real, Manu may spending crazy, but they have huge debts, and sooner or later this will hit them back!!!
2. He bought high profile players when nobody expected it, with half or even third price of what they were bought a year before! For example, Ibra was bought by Barcelona, around 80-90 million Euros (including Eto'o) two years ago, and we bought him for 24 million Euros, and we didn't even had to pay this amount at once (3 years installments). Simply genius!!!
3. He is investing in young players because this is the future. And he realized, it doesn't work in Italy to integrate them into the senior squad directly from the Primavera, that's why he is sending them to gain some experience. The Italian league is more difficult for youngsters than the Spanish or British league!
4. He is scouting and trying to find the best talents when they unknown and have low prices! For example: Kaka, Thiago Silva.
5. He is a master of free signings!! He proved it many times.
6. He realized, he has to have a good relationship with some of the smaller clubs, because the best talents mainly come from smaller clubs and they can develop our own players, and can give them a chance and when they return, they are ready to play for Milan. The best example recently is Abate.
Of course everybody critize him because of the co-ownership deals (loan would be better, I agree), but this is a simple business...if the small clubs owns half of the player rights they taking care of them and paying attention more, because its their interest too that they become good players (they can earn more afterwards). I understand the small clubs, they take risk with those players, paying half of their salaries so they want to earn in the end!
7. Contract extension for the oldies: You can't just send every old player away, and put young players in their place. Just can't work, see the example of Arsenal. This is a process, look at the history, the best squads always had good balance between young and experienced players. They are needed to teach the young players, to give them advice and take the pressure off them!

Perhaps, the only mistake he made, he started this rejuvenating process too late, and there were some years when he signed just old, finished stars and gave them big money contracts. I honestly tell you I was very pissed off during that period! But with this new rule (above 30 years he give only 1 year extension) he implemented, this is finally over! Smile

Of course, I also hope Berlusconi will give us a nice present in the end, a big name signing who will be the right man to replace Pirlo. By the way I like how our management playing with the journalist and nobody knows who will be our Mister X! Smile That's why we will have a very good player for a reasonable price in the end. See what Udinese is doing with Sanchez, his price is going up crazy, because everybody knows which teams are after him! The best deals always happen in the end of August when you can push the price down so I expect our new signing at the final week of August!

In football there are Dynasties, you can't be on top all the time, and I feel our new Dynasty is coming soon!
So don't worry guys, just relax and let the Brain do his job. I am certain, slowly but surely we are going to be the top team in Europe and in the world once again! Wink

RE: Summer Mercato 2011 - Jay Crisp - 07-02-2011

Zlatan didn't cost 80 + million and eto'o.
They are signing young Players one made a bit of an impact Merkel he's now gone.
Nobody was saying spend crazy money , the annoyance was stemmed from the incessant moaning and whining about fees wages tax..and mentioning over and over again about how we can't compete financially.
This pleading poverty isn't going to make any club say we want 20 million well ye can't afford that here have him for 10 million.and what that will do eventually is say we offer 30 million and a club accepts it for a player , the player and more specifically his agent may think well they barely got my fee together no hope of more big signings I think I'll go elsewhere with a better project.
Also gattusso saying we can't afford 30 million and even if we could that player wouldn't help us win the CL....it's comments like those that have me and some other fans annoyed .

Nobody is a bit edgy because we are not spending crazy money like you said Gregorio, we are just a bit annoyed by this self defeating comments.
And we need midfielders as of now we have ....Ambro Rino V.Bommel Flamini Seedorf Urby Boateng..but unfortunately the guys except Flamini Boateng Urby are about 6 years past being a great midfield...
Back to front we are not as old a few seasons ago , but games are predominantly won and lost in midfield..and with allegri preferring Boateng further up it will most likely leave us with mostly 3 starting between Ambro V.Bommel Rino Seedorf if there are fit and we don't sign adequate midfielders..now that looks like a side you'd see in one of those beach soccer legends exhibition tournaments.

Young hungry good players in midfielders would be great , and it is only July 2nd so who knows what will happen.
But these are just opinions on what people see and the action and comments so far.

Hamsiks price and de laurinitis says he'll sell to inter first...fair price well worth it...GIANT FACE PALM ALSO

RE: Summer Mercato 2011 - Gabriel426 - 07-02-2011

For starter, Real and Barca debt will softest by their local government, hence, that's why they can spend those money. ManU debt is mainly due to the interests from the loan their owners took out to finance their purchase of the club.
I think foremost part, people are just annoyed that Juve apparently got more spending power than Milan without CL football and need money to build their stadium.
Lastly, bargain does not come every August, although I applaud Galli for what he done so far, but to think that Hamsik or Pastore will be sold cheaper come August is willful thinking, as both of those teams ain't want to sell their stars in a hurry. Having said that, I am not suggesting Milan should pay50 mil for them but to think a deal can be strike at 15- 20 mil is pure fantasy.
One more thing, those free transfer might seems great due to no transfer fees, but their wages will be inflated. Thus it might come back and haunt Milan down the road.

(07-01-2011, 05:42 PM)Gabriel426 Wrote: HOnestly, I thought the first half of the season was better. Yes, Milan won the league, but just look at the results in March, and you would not be optimistic. On top of that, Serie A was such a weaken league last year.
Having said all that, I am not stating Milan is crap and is not a great side, but comparing Milan to the likes of Barcelona, Real or even ManU is unrealistic.
Milan will most likely win the League again due to Ibra and company but to not get embarrass in CL is another story. What I fear most is not losing in CL but rather getting humilated by the likes of Barcelona or Real. As much as i have faith in Max and MIlan, those two teams are just machines and quite frankly Milan is really a level below those teams.

In the first half of the season, our most positive run of results was from october (or late september) to December. During this time we were recording mostly one goal victories and it wasn't until late November for a run of 2 or 3 games where Pirlo played at LM with Boateng used in AM did we actually play an extremely positive brand of football
dominating opponents.

I agree that there were times in the second half of the season where we were poor, but often these were during periods where we were decimated by injuries. When we started recovering some key players, like Boateng, we not only regained our consistency, but also dominated opponents much better during matches.

About Serie A being weak, I really don't buy this argument whatsoever. The other top leagues have 1-2 good teams, but then lack any quality.
Spain has Barca and Real, and then the rest are a joke. The Premiership is seriously lacking too. Man U aren't that good this season, yet dominated the Premiership and mainly won due to the inconsistency of teams like Chelsea (who had some terrible times this season) and Arsenal. In Italy, teams aren't great right now, but there are plenty of very good sides like Milan, Inter, Napoli, Udinese and others like Palermo (who underperformed), Genoa (as per Palermo) and Lazio.

Milan is currently a level below Real, Barca and others, but lets be honest, we were embarassed by Real once last season during our weakest period of the year. We lost badly, but we're a different team
now that's much stronger than what faced Real last year. We're not on that same level yet, but with some important signings, mostly in midfield, I certainly see us reaching that level.

Personally, I'll reserve my judgement until the end of August. We were concerned about our summer last year too, but at the end of it all, Galliani showed why he and Berlusconi have brought Milan to the top.

3 pts are 3 pts no matter if you win by a goal or by three. Like I said I thought the period in the first half was better mainly due to results and Milan did not drop points against relegation teams. Also, toward the end of a season, teams tend to play more attacking balls instead of parking the bus as they need the three points rather than one. That played a part in Milan scoring two to three goals game.

As for Serie A being a weaker league, well in my opinion, yes. Liga is not as bad as the credits some of you are giving them, it is just that Real and Barca are too good. ManU might seems to have won the EPL with ease last season, but they do have the deepest and most talented squad in the EPL while both Arsenal and Chelsea hitter through some tough spell. Actually toward the end of the season, Chelsea got a great chance to knockoff ManU, just so happened that they lost that game against ManU.

Seems like we have a few "enemies" among club presidents in Italy. Napoli, Palermo... Hopefully Hamsik himself wants Milan more than Inter.

De Laurentis is a difficult man to do business with, and I don't think he shares a particularly good rapport with Milan's management either. These comments don't shock me if I'm honest, it just drives Hamsik's price up and Moratti won't complain if it hurts us.

To me quality of football is important to understand our strengths, as this will allow us to continue to build from and consistently maintain results. Getting 3 points but struggling frequently isn't something we can maintain, and I think Lazio were a good example of that, as they fell away in the second half of the season.

If we're to say 3 points are 3 points, then our second half of the season is still better, as in the first half we picked up 40 points, in the second 42, including the unimportant final match against Udinese. Let's not forget that in addition to this, in the first half we only really missed Pato and Pirlo on long term injuries, while in the second half of the season, we had Pirlo, Boateng and Ambro all out for long times and others out for lots of time too.

La Liga really isn't that strong, the only team that is at all interesting there besides the top two is Villareal, who aren't bad, but hardly brilliant either. In the Premiership, Chelsea had a great chance despite their poor play, and mostly because Man U went through a bad period then too, but believe me, last season's Premiership was the weakest in a long time.

RE: Summer Mercato 2011 - Warro Bantan - 07-02-2011

Having just read Di Laurentis' comments on Hamisik and Inter having the "moral advantage", I'm beginning to think that this guy really thinks he's a producer/director on a movie set.....

"Star power" is one thing, and "player power" is another.

If the youngster decides that he wants to leave for Milan, he will, and we won't have to pay €100M, nor even €40 for him...

I'm a little pissed off with Mr. Movie-man @ this point, and can't wait to see this blow up in his arrogant face.

1, cassno is a dressroom timebomb.
2, cassno is slow and always in questionable conditioning.he is slower than our beloved slowdorf.
3, robinio can offer what cassno offers.
4, cassno is more like a facilitator,he is the 4th option in our attack. but we need a game changer to seriously challenge CL.

Very, very underestimating comments about Cassano. He came to Milan, where there are Ibra, Robinho, Pato, and Inzaghi to compete with him, so why should he fear the competition. If that was the case he would not come here in the first place. To call him dressroom timebomb is also too far, he hadn't done anything destructive in past six months with Milan. To call he is slower than the mighty Slowdorf is also wrong. I mean, how many players you can say slower than Slowdorf, I think not much Sagrin. And to say Robinho can offer what he could, well Cassano can also offer what Robinho can. They are to be rotated if we want to challenge on all fronts. When Ibra suspended again and both Pato and Robinho, God forbid, injured by time of CL quarterfinal or semifinal, which one do you choose; Inzaghi/Cassano or Inzaghi/Oduamadi? He is only 4th options? Well you never know, in his prime he is comparable to Pato (still unstable) and Robinho. A game changer, we already have in Ibra and Pato. And we definitely will have one more at least, in form of the new signing in midfield.

Technically, there's no reason to lose him. He's an excellent player, a great impact player off the bench and provides goals and assists.

However, our squad needs trimming and he needs a starting spot ahead of next year's Euros, which is far from guaranteed. Also if things don't go his way, he could be a massive risk to squad harmony. Finally, he isn't hardworking and prepared to defend throughout a match, something Allegri demands from all his players.

No competition for Cassano in his place in Italian NT. Fans won't forgive Prandelli if he leaves most creative Italy attacking player from Euro, especially after last World Cup fiasco with Gilardino et.al. Oh yeah, both Ibra and Pato also don't want to track back. By your arguments, Allegri and Milan should also discard both of them.

Saying that Milan don't have 30 million to spend on a player let alone 40.
And even he we did and he arrived that it would still not be enough to win the CL.

God all our Players and MGT do is talk about who won't be coming and how little money have to spend
CLAP CLAP CLAP LADS CLAP CLAP!!!

Perhaps they were asked by our management to do so, as part of our transfer strategy you know. In the past players rarely comment about other transfer rumor that doesn't concern them and the only comments we read were given by the directors or agents, but not nowadays. That's why almost everytime T. Silva speaks to the journalist he mentions about Ganso.

Yeah, so damn true. Are we hoping that our players all behave like fcuking Barcelona players who moan everytime in press about Fabregas coming? Meh. This is better.

We'll see some action from Milan but it is DEFINITELY NOT because you want it. Be patient. Our board won't rushing movement for any players or reveal their plan for targeting certain players and risking it to fail, just because some of their fans want to see real action as soon as they want it.
At least we got 1 scudetto and 1 CL in last 5 years. Juventus spend millions, maybe six or ten times our spending, yet all they had in 5 years is only 1 Serie B. Real Madrid which spend about 100M per year, only got 2 league titles and 1 Copa Del Rey. There are no such man who is priced for 50M, it's a crime for humanity when there are millions of people starving and sinking in poverty around the world.

Never understand why we should be proud if our club spending big. I'm more proud with our last scudetto achievement; win something with minimal spending. Don't get me wrong, I know our midfield will be a complete mess without reinforcement, and if by end of August I see nobody comes I'll curse Galliani &co., but hey, summer's still a long way to go, just enjoy it.
